Nahant election outcome had no suspense

Allysha Dunnigan

May 1, 2022 by Allysha Dunnigan

NAHANT — Nahant held its elections on Saturday, with no contested races for the second year in a row.

Town Clerk Diane Dunfee was re-elected and said the elections in Nahant “ran without a hitch, thanks to the help of the town elections staff, Tom Mazzaferro, Nahant Police Department, and the wonderful voters of Nahant.”

Joshua Antrim was re-elected as a Selectman; David G. Conlin was re-elected as the Town Moderator; David Hunt was elected Assessor for three years; Cameron Merrill was elected Assessor for a two-year term; and Robert T. Scanlan Jr. was elected Constable.

David Wilson was re-elected onto the Housing Authority, Beth Anderson was re-elected to the School Committee for a three-year term, and Liana Bryanos Deloid was voted onto the School Committee for a one-year term.

Daniel Munnelly was elected as a Public Library Trustee, and Steven Viviano and John Stabile were re-elected to the Planning Board for a five-year term.

Dunfee gave credit to Town Warden Carol Nelson and the poll checkers, Susan Edwards, Pauline Anderson, Kim Carmody, Sherri April and Jen McCarthy, who have worked many town elections, including the last four with her. She also acknowledged Patti Demit, who retired after many years of service to the town.

“Carol does an amazing job of recording the events of the day and making sure procedures are followed from 6:30 a.m. until the final vote count after the polls close,” Dunfee said. “They are all dedicated, personable and committed to making the election run smoothly and efficiently. We are lucky to have them.”

The total number of voters on Saturday was 292–the exact number as last year’s turnout. This was 10 percent of the total registered voters in Nahant.

“Even though there were no contested races for the second year in a row, we appreciate the residents who came out to vote and support the candidates and the democratic process,” Dunfee said. “Congratulations to all those elected.”
