School Sports Roundup: Lynn Classical baseball earns state tournament berth

The Lynn Classical baseball team became the first local squad to seal up a state tournament berth Monday afternoon, knocking off Medford by a score of 11-1 in six innings to notch its 10th win of the season. 

Tyler Wilson earned the win on the mound for the Rams, tossing all six innings and allowing one run on three hits with one walk and nine strikeouts. Wilson also had a solid day at the plate, going 1-for-2 with one RBI and two runs scored.

Almani Medina went 4-for-4 with four RBI, two runs scored and two stolen bases to pace the offense, while Christian Spates and Juniel Guzman each went 1-for-2 with two RBI. Darnell Leon, Christian Figueroa and Kyle Durant each had a hit in the win.

Lynn Classical (10-2) travels to Everett Wednesday (4).

BASEBALL

Lynn English 6, Revere 1

Mateo Rodriguez went 1-for-3 with two RBI to lead the Bulldogs, while Guilmer Galva (1-for-4, double), Yordy Contreras (1-for-2, double) and Eldrian Bonilla (0-for-4) each had one RBI. 

Victor Cambero earned the win on the mound after pitching three innings and allowing one run on four hits with three strikeouts. Ray Contreras pitched three hitless innings with two strikeouts, while Alex Macmillan closed the game out with one scoreless inning. 

Lynn English (5-4) travels to Somerville Wednesday (4). 

Dom Boudreau went 2-for-3 with one RBI in the loss for the Patriots. 

Revere (7-4) hosts Medford Wednesday (4).

Bishop Stang 1, St. Mary’s 0

Aiven Cabral pitched a stellar game in the heartbreaking loss Monday, going 7 2/3 innings and allowing one run on four hits with 13 strikeouts. 

Tad Giardina notched the lone hit in the loss for the Spartans. 

St. Mary’s (7-4) hosts Bishop Fenwick Wednesday (4).

Malden Catholic 6, St. John’s Prep 4

Aidan Driscoll (1-for-2), Caleb Birchem (1-for-1) and Kyle Webster (0-for-2) each had one RBI in the losing effort for the Eagles. 

Joe Williams got the start on the mound and went 2 2/3 innings, allowing five runs on six hits with seven strikeouts. Cam Wodarski struck out four batters in three innings of relief, while Drew McGowan tossed 1 1/3 innings of one-hit ball.

St. John’s Prep (6-5) hosts St. John’s (Shrewsbury) Wednesday (4).

Bishop Fenwick 7, Archbishop Williams 4

Anthony Marino earned the win on the mound for Fenwick, going five innings and allowing two runs on five hits with nine strikeouts. Marco Carillo pitched two innings of relief and allowed two runs on one hit. 

Andrew McKenzie had a double and two RBI to lead the offense for the Crusaders, while Marino, Gianni Mercurio, Costa Beechin, and Dan Reddick each had one RBI. 

Bishop Fenwick (4-7) travels to St. Mary’s Wednesday (4). 

SOFTBALL

St. Mary’s 12, Bishop Stang 1

Jenna Chaplain went 3-for-3 with three RBI to lead the offensive attack for the Spartans, while Riley Zukas went 3-for-4 with one RBI. Anna Fringuelli picked up the win in the circle after tossing a complete game and striking out five. 

St. Mary’s (8-3) travels to Bishop Fenwick Wednesday (3:30).

Lynn English 18, Revere 13

Janessa Lopez (4-for-6, five RBI), Kate Johansson (4-for-6, four RBI) and Allie Chen (2-for-5, four RBI) all had huge days at the plate for the Bulldogs, while Kelsey McNeil went 3-for-5 for one RBI. Ariana Reynoso notched her first varsity hit and went 2-for-5 with one RBI. 

Arianna Laboy picked up the win on the mound, tossing a complete game and striking out 10 batters. 

Lynn English (4-3) travels to Somerville Thursday (4).

Peabody 6, Masconomet 0

The Tanners continued their power surge Monday afternoon, getting two home runs from Abby Bettencourt and one home run each from Emma Bloom and Gina Terrazzano. Logan Lomasney and Isabel Bettencourt each had RBI singles in the victory.

Abby Bettencourt also picked up the win on the mound after striking out 11.

Peabody (9-1) travels to Swampscott Wednesday (4).

Marblehead 12, Hamilton-Wenham 1 

Grace Martin earned the win on the mound after allowing one run on two hits with eight strikeouts, and she also notched an RBI to help her own cause. 

Sophia Hailsey had two RBI to lead the offense, while Ila Bumagin went 3-for-4.

Marblehead (4-6) hosts Saugus Wednesday (4:30).

BOYS LACROSSE

St. Mary’s 13, Bishop Stang 2

Brady Ayles led the Spartans’ offense with five goals, while Seamus Foley added two goals in the win. 

St. Mary’s (3-6) hosts Bishop Fenwick Wednesday night (7).

Peabody 6, Beverly 5 (OT)

Tyler Kalloo scored the game-winner in overtime and finished with three goals to help lift the Tanners to a victory under the lights Monday. 

Matthew Bettencourt added two goals in the win, while Cam Collins scored one goal and Jose Lendor had one assist. Anthony Curcio won 7-of-14 faceoffs for the Tanners, while goalie Derek Patturelli made 11 saves. 

Peabody (3-5) travels to Bishop Fenwick Friday evening (6).

Lynnfield 13, Ipswich 8

Lynnfield (5-3) hosts North Reading Wednesday (4:15).

GIRLS LACROSSE

Saugus 6, Salem 4

Kali Penachio scored four goals in the victory for the Sachems, while Georgia Fiore and Sophia Scalisi each scored one goal. 

Saugus (2-9) is right back in action Tuesday (4:30) against Malden Catholic.

Salem (3-6) hosts Malden Friday night (7).

Swampscott 14, Gloucester 2

Coco Clopton exploded for seven goals and two assists in the win for the Big Blue, while Broghan Laundry added three goals and four assists. Abby Eichler notched two goals and three assists, while Brooke Waters had one goal and two assists and Emma Reen scored one goal. Lily Johnson added one assist. 

Swampscott (4-2) hosts Beverly Wednesday (4).

Peabody 18, Beverly 9

Brooke Lomasney and McKayla Fisher each had four goals and four assists to lead the offensive attack for the Tanners. McKenna Forni, Siobhan Smith, Lauren Woods and Madi Barrett each scored two goals each in the win. Goalies Laureen Leggett and Caitlin Snow combined to earn the win in net. 

Peabody (6-2) hosts Winthrop Thursday (4).

Marblehead 14, Winthrop 4

The Magicians were led by Sydney Langton’s four goals and one assist, while Hadley Wales was close behind with three goals and two assists. Lucy Wales, Ramona Gillett and Isabelle Ferrante each scored two goals, while Gigi Lombardi added one goal. 

Marblehead (5-8) plays on the road at Masconomet Thursday (4:30).

GIRLS TENNIS

Lynnfield 4, Rockport 1

The Pioneers swept singles play behind wins from Paige Martino (6-2, 6-0), Anna Radulski (6-3, 6-2) and Genna Gioioso (6-4, 6-4), while the doubles team of Lauren Grava and Maddie Sieve also picked up a win (6-7, 7-6 (10-4)). 

Lynnfield (7-0) will play on the road at Pentucket Tuesday (3:30).

Beverly 5, Swampscott 0

There was a bit of controversy in this one, as the Big Blue refused to play on wet courts and was forced to forfeit its match.

Swampscott (3-5) hosts Austin Prep Wednesday (4).
