LYNN — A 22-year-old man has been charged with stabbing his father to death in their Myrtle Street home on Monday night, the Essex County District Attorney’s office said.
Thomas Tully pleaded not guilty to charges of murder, assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, and assault and battery Tuesday in Lynn District Court. He was held without bail during his arraignment.
Tully is charged with killing his father, Michael Tully, 58, and assaulting his mother, whose name and age was not provided by prosecutors, the DA’s office said.
Thomas Tully allegedly stabbed his father with a knife inside their home at 36 Myrtle St. shortly before 6 p.m. on Monday. Michael Tully was taken to Salem Hospital, where he was pronounced dead, the DA’s office said.
District Court Judge Jean Curran allowed Assistant District Attorney Jennifer Capone’s motion to impound the police report and search warrant for 60 days while the case is investigated. Details of the case were not provided during the arraignment.
Tully’s attorney, Rajarshi Sinha, said he had no comment on the case at this time. He did, however, say that his client was doing well.
Tully is scheduled to return to court for a probable cause hearing on May 31.
The incident is being investigated by Lynn Police, Essex State Police detectives, and the DA’s office.
