School Sports Roundup: St. John’s Prep lacrosse tops Xaverian

The St. John’s Prep lacrosse team has officially locked up a spot in the upcoming state tournament, scoring early and often to take down Xaverian by a score of 12-4 Tuesday afternoon. The win is the 10th of the season for the Eagles. 

Jake Vana led the way for St. John’s Prep with three goals, while Tommy Sarni scored two goals. Luke Kelly, Lucas Verrier, Chris Esposito, Harlan Graber, Rowan Mondello and Will Sawyer each scored one goal in the victory. 

St. John’s Prep (10-2) hosts La Salle Academy Sunday afternoon (12).

GIRLS LACROSSE

Revere 5, Medford 4

Revere (4-7) hosts Malden Thursday (4).

BASEBALL

Minuteman 7, Lynn Tech 4
Lynn Tech 9, Minuteman 3

Roman Valdes came up with two RBI to help the Tigers in their doubleheader split Tuesday, while Wesley Morales went 3-for-3 and Kolby Buckley went 2-for-2. Will McCafferty earned the win on the mound in the second game. 

Lynn Tech (4-3) hosts Nashoba Thursday (4).

Somerville 4, Salem 0

Salem (0-8) travels to Gloucester Thursday (4:30).

GIRLS TENNIS

Lynnfield 5, Pentucket 0

The Pioneers swept the match behind singles wins from Paige Martino (6-3, 6-1), Anna Radulski (6-2, 6-0) and Genna Gioioso (6-0, 6-2) and doubles wins from the team of Lauren Grava-Maddie Sieve (6-1, 6-4) and the team of Sarah Breslow-Leticia Marafon (7-6, 6-2). 

Lynnfield (8-0) travels to Newburyport — a team that is also undefeated in the Cape Ann League — Thursday (3:30).

Marblehead 5, Saugus 0

The Magicians were able to remain undefeated in Northeastern Conference play with their win on the road Tuesday. 

With first singles player Alessandra Staffialini out injured for Marblehead, Maddie Conlon moved up to first singles and took home a 6-1, 6-1 win. Charly Cooper moved up to second singles and won 6-1, 6-3, while Andrea Potvin stepped in and played her first singles match of the year — pulling out a 6-0, 6-3 victory.

In doubles play, the team of Ella Kramer and Courtney Yoder won in straight sets (6-0, 6-0) and the team of Leah Schauder and Aviva Bornstein won after dropping only one set (6-1, 6-0).

“With our first singles out for the match I was able to dig into our bench, where there are several young, talented players hungry for the varsity experience,” said Marblehead coach Tracy Ackerman. “All of our players stepped up in a big way. We have some important matches remaining in the season, and the girls are starting to play their best tennis. I’m excited to see what the next part of the season holds for us.”

Marblehead (6-2) hosts Masconomet Wednesday (4).

BOYS OUTDOOR TRACK

St. Mary’s 94, Cathedral 38
Bishop Feehan 99, St. Mary’s 37

Anthony D’Itria led the way in the tri-meet for the Spartans, winning the triple jump with a state-qualifying distance of 41 feet, one inch.

St. Mary’s (5-1) runs against Cardinal Spellman Tuesday (4).

Somerville 114, Lynn English 15

The lone win for the Bulldogs came from Stephen Srey, who took first in the shot put (44-3 1/4).

Lynn English (0-4) runs against Lynn Classical on May 16.

GIRLS OUTDOOR TRACK

St. Mary’s 65, Cathedral 49
Bishop Feehan 120, St. Mary’s 16

The Spartans got a win from Makayla Kokonezis in the high jump (4-8).

St. Mary’s (2-4) runs against Cardinal Spellman Tuesday (4).

Somerville 67, Lynn English 63

Cynaya Jackson and Dany Diroche were both double-winners for the Bulldogs, with Jackson taking the shot put (26-9 1/2) and the javelin (73-7) and Diroche taking the 100 hurdles (20.6) and the 400 hurdles (1:26.5). Other winners for English were Victoria Samuel in the 100 (13.5),
