Thanks to a walk-off RBI single from Jenna Chaplain in the bottom of the 11th inning, the St. Mary’s softball team outlasted Austin Prep by a score of 4-3 at Breed Middle School Monday afternoon.
Chaplain went 1-for-5 with one RBI in the win, while Anna Fringuelli led the offensive attack by going 2-for-4 with two RBI. Roma Braid went 2-for-5 with a triple and one RBI, while Lily Newhall went 1-for-5 with a double.
Newhall also pitched nine stellar innings and took home the win, throwing an eye-popping 130 pitches and allowing one run on four hits with 12 strikeouts. Fringuelli pitched 1 1/3 innings and allowed two runs on four hits with one strikeout, while Riley Zukas allowed one hit in 2/3 of an inning.
St. Mary’s (13-2) travels to Arlington Catholic Wednesday (3:30).
SOFTBALL
Lynn Classical 17, Malden 5 (F/5)
Manuela Lizardo had another huge day at the plate, going 3-for-4 with a double and four RBI to lead the way. Izzy Faessler went 4-for-4 with a triple, a double and three RBI, while Rachel Dana went 3-for-3 with two triples and three RBI. Reese Brinkler went 2-for-4 with a double and two RBI.
Lynn Classical (9-3) turns right around and hosts Medford Tuesday (4).
Arlington Catholic 11, Bishop Fenwick 5
Bishop Fenwick (6-7) hosts Latin Academy Tuesday (3:45).
BASEBALL
Austin Prep 5, St. Mary’s 0
The Spartans were only able to scatter four hits against the top-ranked Cougars, as Tad Giardina, Zach Fisher, Aiven Cabral and Cam McGonagle each had one.
Cabral took the loss on the mound after going six innings and allowing five runs on seven hits with eight strikeouts.

St. John’s Prep 4, Xaverian 2
Cam LaGrassa went 1-for-2 with two RBI to lead the offensive attack for the Eagles, while Aidan Driscoll, Payton Palladino, Kyle Webster, Nick Solitro, Shane Williams and Tucker Larson each had one hit.
Webster picked up the victory on the mound for the Eagles, going four innings and allowing two runs on three hits with six strikeouts. Joe Williams pitched three hitless innings of relief, striking out two.
St. John’s Prep (7-5) hosts BC High Wednesday (3).
Winthrop 12, Salem Academy 2 (F/6)
Matt DeCarney went 1-for-2 with two RBI to lead the way for the Vikings, while Pete Silverman, Anthony Indrisano, Chris Gibbons, Joe Ferullo and Evan Rockerfeller each had one RBI.
Ferullo also picked up the win on the mound after tossing five innings and allowing two runs on two hits with eight strikeouts. Phil Boncore pitched one hitless inning of relief with two strikeouts.
Winthrop (7-6) travels to Salem Wednesday (4).
Saugus 10, Hamilton-Wenham 0 (F/5)
It was a big day at the plate for Anthony Macone, who led the Sachems by going 2-for-3 with a triple, a double and three RBI. Cam Soroko went 1-for-2 with a double and two RBI, while Anthony Cicolini (4-for-4), Braden Faiella (0-for-3), Drew Gardner (0-for-3) and Matt MacEachern (0-for-1) each had one RBI.
The win on the mound went to Nathan Ing, who pitched four innings and allowed just four hits with four strikeouts. Sean O’Rourke pitched one scoreless inning and struck out one batter.
Saugus (7-6) travels to Masconomet Wednesday (4:30).
Lynn Classical 12, Malden 5
The Rams trailed 5-2 heading into the top of the seventh before rattling off 10 runs and then holding on to win.
Brady Warren and Jon Baker each had three RBI to lead the Classical offense, while Juniel Guzman and Christian Figueroa both had clutch RBI in the seventh inning to help the Rams tie things up and then take the lead. Tyler Wilson and Christian Spates each had three hits in the win.
Knico Ramirez picked up the win in relief after coming in in the second inning and going the rest of the way.
Lynn Classical (11-2) takes on cross-town rival Lynn English Wednesday night (7) under the lights at Manning Field.

Anthony Marino went the distance on the mound to earn the victory for the Crusaders.

Matthew Bettencourt scored three goals to pace the offense, while Nick Salvati added two goals and one assist. Eric Carredano, Michael Balke, Derek Collins, Donald Cavanaugh and John Kritikos each scored their first career varsity goals in the win, while Ryan Rice and Andrew Pinto each had one assist for their first career points. John Lucas and Danny Barret each had one assist as well. Goalies Derek Patturelli (four saves) and Aidan Haight (three saves) combined for the shutout win in net.
Peabody (5-5) has a quick turnaround with a home game against Salem Tuesday (4).
Marblehead 14, Gloucester 2
Marblehead (10-2) has a full week off before traveling to Peabody next Monday (4).

Sydney Langton had a big day with four goals and one assist, while Ramona Gillett and Hadley Wales each had two goals and two assists. Gigi Lombardi and Gretchen Smith each scored two goals, while Lucy Wales notched one goal and three assists. Isabelle Ferrante and Natalie Suhr each scored one goal, while Caroline Scroope notched one assist.
Marblehead (6-8) has a full week off before hosting Peabody next Monday (4).
Peabody 13, Saugus 1
The star of the day for Peabody was McKenna Forni, who notched five goals to lead the offensive attack. Siobhan Smith scored two goals, while Lauren Woods, Katie Amico, Ally Bettencourt, Kayla Landry and Abbie Mae Nicholson each scored one goal. Ella Luise added her first varsity goal, while goalie Caitlin Snow picked up the win in net with four saves.
Peabody (8-2) travels to Dracut Wednesday evening (5:30).
Masconomet 19, Swampscott 4
Scarlett Ciciotti led the way with two goals in the loss, while Abby Eichler and Coco Clopton each scored one goal. Lily Johnson added one assist, while goalie Sasha Divall made 11 saves.

Avery Laundry scored two goals for the Spartans, while Chloe Puzzo, Kasey Litwin and Gabbi Oakes each scored one goal. Jill Kirby added two assists, while Ava Nason and Molly Cummings each had one assist. Goalie Payton Quirk made 11 saves.

The Spartans swept the singles portion of the day to earn the win, getting victories from Mark Wood, Aidan Sullivan and Connor Hamel.

The lone win for the Rams came from the doubles team of Derek Bun and Kevin Calixte by set scores of 6-3, 6-4.

Lynnfield 3, Ipswich 2
Long after all of the other matches were over, the doubles team of Lauren Grava and Maddie Sieve pulled out the win in a marathon, three-hour long match by set scores of 6-2, 5-7, 7-6 (8-6).
Other winners for the Pioneers were Anna Radulski (6-1, 6-2) and Genna Gioioso (6-1, 6-4).
Lynnfield (9-1) plays on the road at Austin Prep Wednesday (3:30).

The Magicians got a singles win from Charly Cooper (6-0, 6-0) before sweeping doubles play with wins from the team of Ella Kramer and Courtney Yoder (6-1, 6-3) and the team of Aoife Bresnahan and Andrea Potvin (6-1, 6-1).
Marblehead (8-2) travels to Swampscott Wednesday (4).

The doubles team of Olivia Egan and Ava Gigliotti picked up the match-clinching point for the Spartans.

The Big Blue got wins from Veronika Isagulyan (6-1, 6-2), Clara Power (7-5, 6-1) and Laine Foutes (6-1, 6-0) in singles play. In doubles play, wins came from the team of Anna Ratner and Anastasia Shub (6-2, 6-0) and the team of Victoria Quagrello and Madison Diehl (6-3, 6-1).

The Rams pulled out two singles wins in the loss Monday, with Kenzie McLaren (6-4, 7-6) and Alyssa Raithel (6-1, 1-6, 6-1) both securing victories.
