School Sports Roundup: Lynn Classical softball locks up tournament spot

The Lynn Classical softball team officially locked up a spot in the upcoming state tournament Tuesday afternoon, rolling to a 15-2 win in five innings over Greater Boston League foe Medford in a continuation of a game from earlier this year. 

“It’s a great feeling for sure, but we’re just focused on the next game now,” said Classical coach Joe Morin. 

Manuela Lizardo continued her stellar season at the plate in the win, hitting her fourth home run of the season and knocking in one RBI while scoring three runs. Rachel Dana went 2-for-2 with three RBI, while Reese Brinkler went 1-for-2 with a double and three RBI. Gianna Cueto went 2-for-3 with two RBI.

Lynn Classical (10-3) takes on Lynn English Wednesday (4).

SOFTBALL

Nashoba 19, Lynn Tech 2
Nashoba 16, Lynn Tech 4

The biggest hit of the day for the Tigers came from Ariella Long, who smashed a home run to center field.

Lynn Tech (1-8) takes on KIPP in another doubleheader Thursday (4).

BASEBALL

Nashoba 17, Lynn Tech 7

Josh Celly (2-for-2) and Tyler Maynard (2-for-2) each had multiple hits in the loss for the Tigers, while Domenic Giordano had one hit. 

Lynn Tech (5-4) plays a doubleheader against KIPP Thursday (4).

BOYS LACROSSE

Lynnfield 10, Hamilton-Wenham 7

The Pioneers picked up a big Cape Ann League victory on the road behind three goals and three assists from Jack Calichman. Drew Damiani added two goals and three assists, while Will Steadman had two goals and two assists. Will Norton added two goals, while Kelan Cardinal notched one goal and one assist. Goalie Ben Pimentel came up with a number of key saves in the fourth quarter, while defenseman Rupert Thomas blocked a shot late in the game to help seal the win. 

Lynnfield (8-3) plays on the road at Somerville Thursday (4).

GIRLS LACROSSE

Hamilton-Wenham 16, Lynnfield 8

Freshman Taylor Valiton led the way with four goals in the loss, while fellow freshman Sarah Powers added one goal and two assists. Anna Kaminski, Chloe Considine and Natalie Connell each scored one goal, while goalie Sarah Degenero made 11 saves. 

Lynnfield (3-8) is off until Monday (6) when it plays on the road at Triton.

Mystic Valley 8, Saugus 4

The Sachems were right in the mix at halftime, but they simply couldn’t find the back of the net in the second half in the loss.

Senior captain Georgia Fiore led the way with two goals, while senior captain Kali Penachio and sophomore Nina Penachio each scored one goal in the loss. 

Saugus (2-11) hosts Gloucester Thursday (4:30).

GIRLS TENNIS

Revere 3, Lynn Classical 2

The Rams got singles wins from Alyssa Raithel (6-4, 6-2) and Linda Jallow (6-3, 3-6, 6-3). 

Lynn Classical (4-5) hosts Lynn English Wednesday (4).

Austin Prep 5, Lynnfield 0

While the Pioneers didn’t pick up a match win, the closest match of the day was in second singles — where Anna Radulski fell 6-7, 6-7.

Lynnfield (9-2) is off until Friday (3:30) when it takes on Triton.
