LYNNFIELD — The Lynnfield softball team celebrated its Senior Day in style Monday afternoon, putting together a big offensive effort in a 15-3 victory over Hamilton-Wenham in a Cape Ann League battle at Lynnfield High School.

“It was nice to see us put it all together on both sides of the field,” said Lynnfield coach Peter Marinelli. “We’ve hit pretty well this year for the most part, but when we come out with a good defensive effort as well, we’ve been a tough team to beat.”

Prior to the game, the Pioneers honored their two seniors — Ella Cammarata and captain Maddie Condon — for their contributions to the program over the past four years.

“They’ve been with the program for four years now and they stuck with us through everything, including missing an entire season,” said Marinelli. “It’s truly a credit to them that they’ve stuck around and helped lead us all this time.”

The offensive attack for Lynnfield was led by Lucia Diaz, who went 2-for-2 with two RBI. Ava Gamache went 2-for-4 with a run scored, while Cammarata and Condon each had a hit in the victory.

Sophia Brown picked up the win in the circle with a complete-game effort, but the real key that Marinelli pointed to was the Pioneers’ defense.

“The defensive lapses have been what’s killed us all year,” said Marinelli. “When we don’t play good defense, we have a lot of problems out there. But when we can keep the scores down like this and we don’t make errors, we end up being right in it.”

Lynnfield (5-9) is back at it Wednesday (4) with another home game against Triton.

“We’re hoping to ride some of this momentum into a tough conference battle,” said Marinelli. “Hopefully we can go out there, play another solid defensive game and give ourselves a chance to get another win.”
