School Sports Roundup: Lynnfield boys lacrosse knocks off Triton to earn tournament berth

The Lynnfield boys lacrosse team killed two birds with one stone Monday afternoon, picking up a big Cape Ann League win and locking up a state tournament spot with a 12-11 victory over Triton at Pioneer Stadium.

Drew Damiani led the offensive attack with four goals and one assist, while Will Steadman picked up three goals and three assists. Jack Calichman had one goal and added four assists, while Kelan Cardinal notched one goal and one assist. Will Norton, Janssen Sperling and AJ Chiaradonna each scored one goal, while Steven Dreher picked up two assists. 

Lynnfield (10-3) plays another CAL battle Wednesday (3:45) on the road against Pentucket. 

BOYS LACROSSE

Marblehead 17, Peabody 4

Cam Collins, Donald Cavanaugh, Danny Barrett and Trotman Smith each had one goal and one assist in the loss for the Tanners. Goalie Derek Patturelli had a big day with 19 saves. 

Peabody (8-6) travels to Gloucester Thursday (4:30).

Marblehead (11-2) travels to Swampscott Thursday (4).

GIRLS LACROSSE

St. Mary’s 12, Bishop Stang 11

Gabbi Oakes had a big day with four goals and one assist, while Hannah Coleman was close behind with three goals. Ava Nason added two goals, while Jill Kirby had one goal and three assists. Chloe Puzzo and Kasey Litwin each had one goal and one assist, while Molly Cummings had three assists and Avery Laundry had one assist. Goalie Payton Quirk battled hard to earn 15 saves in the win. 

St. Mary’s (5-10-1) hosts Cardinal Spellman Wednesday (5).

Swampscott 19, Salem 5

Behind a six-goal, one-assist performance from Broghan Laundry, the Big Blue rolled to a Northeastern Conference victory. 

Sophia Ciciotti notched four goals and one assist, while Coco Clopton had two goals and four assists. Scarlett Ciciotti added two goals and two assists, while Abby Eichler had two goals and one assist. Lily Johnson notched one goal and three assists, Angela D’Alelio had one goal and one assist and Brooke Waters scored one goal.

Swampscott (8-3) is right back in action Tuesday (4) against Winthrop. 

Peabody 18, Marblehead 11

McKayla Fisher and Ally Bettencourt each led the Tanners with five goals and three assists apiece, while Brooke Lomasney had four goals and one assist. Madi Barrett added two goals and two assists, while Siobhan Smith had one goal and one assist. McKenna Forni added one goal, while Katie Amico had two assists and Lauren Woods had one assist. Goalie Cailin Snow made 14 saves in the win.

Peabody (11-3) hosts Gloucester Thursday (6).

Hadley Wales led Marblehead with five goals, while Sydney Langton notched four goals. Lucy Wales and Isabelle Ferrante each had one goal, while Molly Cronin had one assist. Goalie Kate Santeusanio made seven saves. 

Marblehead (6-10) hosts Swampscott Thursday (4).

BASEBALL

Bishop Stang 2, St. Mary’s 1

The Spartans came up just short in the opening round of the CCL Cup Monday.

John Nowicki went 1-for-3 with one RBI and one stolen base in the loss, while Tad Giardina (2-for-3) and Aiven Cabral (1-for-3) added hits.

Cabral took the loss on the mound despite a solid effort, going six innings and allowing two runs on four hits with 11 strikeouts. 

St. Mary’s (9-7) takes on Bishop Feehan Wednesday (3:30).

Lynn English 11, Chelsea 0 (F/4)

The Bulldogs picked up the win behind a four-inning no-hitter from pitcher Josh Jimenez, who struck out 11 batters in the win. 

Eldrian Bonilla led the offensive attack, going 2-for-3 with a double and three RBI. Tim Donahue went 1-for-2 with three RBI, while Mateo Rodriguez went 0-for-2 with two RBI. Nevin Gonzalez (1-for-1), Jason Figuereo (0-for-0) and Yordy Contreras (0-for-0) each had one RBI in the win. 

Lynn English (9-5) hosts Malden Wednesday (4).

Lynn Classical 11, Somerville 5

Kyle Durant picked up the win on the mound after allowing one earned run on four hits with five strikeouts, while Tyler Wilson pitched well in relief. 

Juniel Guzman had a big day at the plate for the Rams, going 3-for-3 with five RBI and two runs scored. Darnell Leon went 2-for-3 with two RBI, while Jon Baker went 2-for-4 with one RBI. Christian Figueroa went 2-for-3 with three runs scored. 

Lynn Classical (13-3) travels to Chelsea Wednesday (4).

Revere 4, Everett 0

Chris Cecca went 1-for-3 with two RBI to lead the way for the Patriots, while Dom Boudreau (2-for-3) and Kyle Cummings ((1-for-2) each had one RBI. 

Brendan Sack picked up the win on the mound with a complete-game effort, allowing just three hits and striking out five. 

Revere (10-5) travels to East Boston Wednesday (4).

Swampscott 4, Masconomet 2

Jonah Cadorette and John Cuttle each had an RBI to lead the way for the Big Blue, while Cam O’Brien got the win on the mound after going six innings. Pierce Friedman came on to earn the save with one scoreless inning of relief. 

Swampscott (10-5) hosts Winthrop Friday (6:30).

Gloucester 3, Peabody 0

Peabody (8-7) travels to Winthrop Wednesday (4).

SOFTBALL

St. Mary’s 7, Archbishop Williams 2

Lily Newhall earned the win in the circle after going all seven innings and allowing two runs on four hits with 13 strikeouts. She also went 2-for-4 at the plate and notched one RBI. Jillian Kirby (1-for-3) and Emely Rodriguez (1-for-4) each added one RBI in the win. 

St. Mary’s (15-2) moves on to the CCL Cup title game Wednesday (3:30) against Bishop Feehan.

Lynn Classical 21, Somerville 3 (F/5)

The red-hot Classical offense was led by Reese Brinkler, who went 1-for-2 with a home run and four RBI. Manuela Lizardo (2-for-3, double) and Nevaeh Eth (2-for-2, two doubles) each had three RBI in the win, while Rachel Dana went 3-for-3 with two RBI. 

MeKayla Poisson picked up the win in the circle after going all five innings and allowing three runs on two hits with eight strikeouts. She also went 4-for-4 with two RBI at the plate. 

Lynn Classical (12-3) hosts Chelsea Wednesday (4).

Saugus 13, Salem 3

Fallon Millerick was the star of the day for the Sachems, going 2-for-5 with a home run and three RBI at the plate and earning the win in the circle after going five innings and allowing three runs while striking out three. 

Felicia Reppucci went 3-for-5 with two RBI, while Taylor Deleidi (3-for-4), Gianna Costa (3-for-5) and Felicia Alexander (1-for-3) each had one RBI. 

Saugus (9-6) is right back in action Tuesday (6) on the road at Swampscott.

Marblehead 5, Rockport 2

Lyla McGovern went 2-for-3 and scored the go-ahead run for the Magicians, while Grace Martin picked up the win in the circle after striking out 10.

Marblehead (5-10) hosts Peabody Wednesday (4).

BOYS TENNIS

Marblehead 3, Beverly 2

The Magicians got wins from Mika Garber (6-2, 6-2) and Matthew Sherf (6-1, 6-3) in doubles play, while the doubles team of Kipp Schauder and Jayden Janock also picked up a win (6-3, 6-2). 

Marblehead (9-5) hosts Manchester-Essex Tuesday (4).

GIRLS TENNIS

Lynn Classical 3, Somerville 2

The Rams swept doubles play behind wins from Kenzie McLaren (6-2, 6-2), Alyssa Raithel (6-1, 6-2) and Linda Jallow (6-1, 6-2). 

Lynn Classical (7-5) takes on Medford Wednesday (4) in its regular season finale.

Marblehead 5, Saugus 0

The Magicians got singles wins from Alessandra Staffialini (6-1, 6-1), Charly Cooper (6-4, 6-2) and Ella Kramer (6-1, 6-2), while the doubles teams of Aoife Bresnahan and Andrea Potvin (6-1, 6-0) and Leah Schauer and Aviva Bornstein (6-1, 6-3) also picked up wins. 

Marblehead (11-2) travels to Manchester-Essex Tuesday (4).

Masconomet 5, Swampscott 0

Swampscott (5-8) hosts Beverly Wednesday (4).
