School Sports Roundup: Lynn Jets pull out double-overtime win over Saugus

The Lynn Jets lacrosse team pulled off a thrilling win Friday evening at Manning Field, as Nick Costa netted the game-winning goal in double overtime to give the Jets an 11-10 win over Saugus in a non-conference bout. 

Costa finished the game with two goals, as did Ryan Dunn, but the real star of the day was Stevan Downey — who netted an eye-popping seven goals in the win. Stephen Difilippo finished the game with five assists, while Jordan Em had one assist. Goalie Nate Sisson made 12 saves to earn the win in net. 

Lynn (8-5) and Saugus (2-12) will meet again Wednesday evening (6:30) in Saugus for the regular-season finale.

BOYS LACROSSE

Newburyport 12, Lynnfield 7

Lynnfield (11-4) hosts Gloucester Tuesday (3:45).

GIRLS LACROSSE

Newburyport 19, Lynnfield 0

Lynnfield (3-11) travels to Wilmington Monday (4).

BASEBALL

Masconomet 4, Lynn English 0

The Bulldogs got one hit each from Yordy Contreras, Guilmer Galva, Mateo Rodriguez and Kenry Manzanillo in the loss. 

Manuel Taveras took the loss on the mound after allowing three runs on two hits with two strikeouts in three innings of work, while Ray Contreras also pitched three innings and allowed one run on two hits with two strikeouts. Alex MacMillan pitched one scoreless inning of relief with one strikeout. 

Lynn English (9-6) travels to Somerville Monday (4).

Swampscott 15, Winthrop 3 (F/5)

The Big Blue exploded out to an 11-1 lead after two innings and never looked back in the blowout win at Forest Avenue Park. 

Jonah Cadorette and Will Roddy each had two RBI to help pace the Swampscott offense, while Connor Correnti had two hits and scored three runs. 

Pierce Friedman earned the win on the mound after allowing three runs and striking out four, while Matt Schroeder struck out three batters in relief. 

Swampscott (11-5) hosts Boston English Sunday afternoon (12).

The Vikings only mustered two hits in the loss, with Pete Silverman and Chris Gibbons each notching one. 

Winthrop (8-10) travels to Gloucester Monday (5).

SOFTBALL

Saugus 13, Swampscott 1 (F/5)

The Sachems celebrated Senior Day with a big win, and all of the senior captains contributed to the victory. 

Senior captain Felicia Reppucci led the way on offense, going 2-for-3 with a triple and three RBI. Senior captains Gianna Costa (2-for-3) and Ryann Moloney (1-for-3) each had one RBI, while senior captain Fallon Millerick earned the win in the circle after going five innings and allowing one run on two hits with five strikeouts. She also went 2-for-4 with one RBI at the plate.

The Sachems also got offensive contributions from Kaitlyn Pugh (2-for-3, two RBI) and Devany Millerick (2-for-3, RBI), while Ava Rogers, Lily Ventre, Taylor Deleidi and Bella Natalucci each had one hit. 

Saugus (11-6) travels to Danvers Monday (4).

Emma Bragan, Megan Holmes and Jocelyn Spickard each had one hit in the loss for the Big Blue. 

Swampscott (6-9) travels to Gloucester Monday (4).

BOYS TENNIS

Marblehead 4, Masconomet 1

The Magicians got singles wins from Mika Garber (6-1, 6-1) and Guillermo Jimenez-Herreria (7-6 (7-4), 7-6 (7-4)), while the doubles teams of Jack Donovan and Dwight Foster (7-5, 7-6 (7-5)) and Etan Farfel and Jayden Janock (6-2, 6-4) also picked up wins. 

Marblehead (11-6) hosts Gloucester Tuesday (4).

GIRLS TENNIS

Swampscott 5, Salem 0

The Big Blue were nearly perfect across the board Friday, getting singles wins from Veronika Isagulyan (6-0, 6-0), Laine Foutes (6-0, 6-0) and Victoria Quagrello (6-0, 6-0). Swampscott also got doubles wins from the team of Franci Southan and Sydney Antonelli (6-1, 6-1) and the team of Tessa Prendergast and Madison Diehl (6-0, 6-0). 

Swampscott (8-8) plays a make-up match against Masconomet Saturday morning (9).

Masconomet 5, Marblehead 0

Marblehead (11-4) gets another crack at Masconomet on Monday (4) at home.
