BOSTON — Representative Thomas P. Walsh (D-Peabody) is partnering with Ronald McDonald House Charities New England (RMHC-NE) to launch a collection drive of pop tabs.
Pop tabs collected over the summer will be picked up by Walsh and delivered to the RMHC-NE Boston location after Labor Day. The tabs will then be recycled, with proceeds donated to RMHC-NE, a non-profit charity that helps provide lodging and hospitality, home-cooked meals, and family-oriented activities for families from around the world while their children receive life-saving treatment at nearby Boston and Rhode Island hospitals.
“The team at Ronald McDonald House Charities offers young patients and their families a warm, friendly place to stay and allows for peace of mind during a very worrying and stressful time,” Walsh said at a press conference held at the Ronald McDonald House at Boston Harbor. “I hope you will join me by simply saving the pop tab from a can of tonic or beer. Together, we can make an important difference for a family in need.”
RMHC-NE CEO Fretchen Manning said she was thrilled to welcome Walsh to the Ronald McDonald House.
“His compassion, kindness and motivation in wanting to help us fulfill our mission of Keeping Families Close is an inspiration, and I’m honored to welcome him to the RMHC-NE family as one of our Champions,” Manning said. “All services to families are provided free of charge and initiatives like this done by the greater community really have a positive ripple effect, and for generations to come.”
Residents are asked to remove the pop tabs from aluminum cans before disposing or recycling them. For pick-up, please contact Walsh by phone at 978-531-8489 or by email at [email protected].
