The MIAA released its brackets for the upcoming baseball state tournaments on Wednesday afternoon, and a host of local teams find themselves scattered throughout.
The Division 1 bracket sports the largest number of local teams, with five North Shore squads making their way into the tournament. Leading things off in Div. 1 is St. John’s Prep, which finished at 13-7 and picked up a No. 13 seed. The Eagles have earned a bye in the first round, but they already have a second-round opponent as No. 20 Lincoln-Sudbury also earned a bye. The date of their Round of 32 game is to be determined.
Peabody (10-10), which snuck into the tournament on the final day of the season after winning the James Geanoulis Memorial Tournament, has earned the No. 38 seed and will head on the road to play a preliminary round game against Algonquin Saturday afternoon (2).
Two Lynn teams also populate the Div. 1 bracket, as Lynn Classical (14-6) and Lynn English (13-7) earned the No. 40 and No. 41 seeds, respectively. Both teams will play preliminary round games on the road Saturday, as Classical will take on No. 25 Durfee (4:30) and English will face No. 24 Framingham (1).
Revere (13-7) rounds out the local teams in the Div. 1 bracket, picking up the No. 42 seed. The Patriots will take on No. 23 Beverly Friday afternoon (4) in the preliminary round.
The two-time defending Div. 2 state champion St. Mary’s Spartans are once again a top-ranked team heading into the tournament, as they’ve picked up a No. 5 seed after finishing the season at 12-9. The Spartans will have a bye in the first round before facing the winner of No. 28 Pope Francis-No. 37 Wayland in the Round of 32.
The red-hot Marblehead Magicians (13-7) earned a No. 14 seed after closing the season with wins in 12 of their last 14 games. Marblehead will get a first-round bye before facing No. 19 Canton in the Round of 32 at a date and time to be determined.
Three local teams are in the Div. 3 tournament bracket, with Swampscott leading the way as the No. 20 seed. The Big Blue, who closed the year at 13-7, will go up against No. 13 Oakmont Monday afternoon (4) in the Round of 32.
Bishop Fenwick’s strength of schedule got it into the tournament despite a 9-11 record, and the Crusaders will get a home game as the No. 22 seed. Fenwick will host No. 43 Belchertown in the preliminary round Friday afternoon (4).
Saugus (10-10) also earned a home game in the first round, with the Sachems getting the No. 28 seed and hosting No. 37 Martha’s Vineyard Saturday afternoon (2) at World Series Park.
The Div. 4 bracket has two teams in it, with Winthrop grabbing the No. 24 seed after finishing the year at 10-10. The Vikings will get a first-round bye before facing No. 9 Abington in the Round of 32 at a date and time to be determined.
Lynn Tech got the very last spot in the field as the No. 37 seed. The Tigers will go on the road to face No. 28 Monomoy at a date and time to be determined.
