Swampscott — The Swampscott Yacht Club will be hosting its first Marine Fair Sunday, beginning at 10 a.m.
The event, free to the public, will feature boat rides, live music, lobster rolls, artists, and more.
SYC, located in Swampscott’s municipal Fish House, was founded in 1933, and was originally built in 1896. In 1985, this building was added to the National Register of Historic Places and is the oldest active fish house in the United States and the only municipal fish house on the East Coast. As of this year, there are approximately 200 boats in SYC’s harbor, which consist of fishing, sailing, and pleasure boats.
Food and drink will be available for purchase, lobster rolls will be provided locally by Little Harbor Lobster Company and Wicked Awesome Brownies will make contributions too. Viva Tequila Seltzer will not be providing drinks but will be there with swag.
Local artists will display their work for purchase at the event. Lisa Boemer, owner of The Hiccup, will be one of four other artists at this event.
“I’ll have paintings, and photo note cards of sunrises and lobster boats on display,” said Boemer.
Hiccup Inc, is a specialty curated gift shop featuring 30-plus creators and makers on the North Shore of Boston in the seaside community. Many of her crafters and designers are not to be sold on amazon, and only remain in small shops like hers.
Boat rides will be available for free, open to members of the Swampscott community that decide to participate. There will be a selection of up to 11 vendors. Each is from the local community, not far from Swampscott. Cape Codder Boating Company builds custom boats and are occupied with active lobstermen located in Lynn.
With many different coastal aspects of the Swampscott community coming together, it’s safe to say that this is most certainly a Marine Fair. For SYC’s first, there will be an abundance of support from boaters, fisherman, artists, restaurants, and volunteers.
Without volunteers to help conduct the organization and run this event, all of this would not have been possible; there may have even been less boats to take a ride on. Nothing says Marine Fair like SYC’s very own seaside community.
