Marblehead — Graduates walked onto the field to their seats awaiting being presented with their diplomas. All 246 students were dressed in black and red gowns to reflect school spirit. Some caps were decorated with the abbreviations of the college they will be attending.

This ceremony was outside on Piper Field, where family, friends, faculty, and staff all gathered in celebration of the Marblehead High School senior class. The MHS band, directed by Craig VanRemoortel, opened the ceremony playing the song “Seven Nation Army.”

Ketsia Kiamanga welcomed the crowd with an opening speech in congratulations to herself and the rest of her classmates.

“Thank you, for believing in me when I did not believe in myself,” said Kiamanga.

Principal, Daniel Bauer, gave his commencement speech at the podium before the Class of 2022. Clapping erupted through the center field and bleachers.

“You overcame the pandemic and made your mark here at Marblehead High School,” said Bauer.

Class vice presidents called the names of their classmates to come on to the stage, to receive their diploma and shake Principal Bauer’s hand.

From the bleachers, families cheered, whistled, and shouted with joy. Smiles and tears crossed each student’s face as they took on the skills they learned in their past twelve years of school into a successful future.
