The Bishop Fenwick softball team became the first local squad to punch its ticket to the Round of 16 Friday afternoon, as the No. 13 Crusaders knocked off No. 20 Newburyport by a score of 2-0 on their home field in the Division 3 Round of 32.

Gigi Aupont was the star of the day for Fenwick, and she did it all. Aupont tossed a complete-game one-hitter in the circle, striking out 14 batters in the process. She was also responsible for all of her team’s runs on the offensive side, going 1-for-2 with a home run and two RBI.

Bishop Fenwick (12-9) punched its ticket to the Div. 3 Round of 16 with the win, and the Crusaders will now take on either No. 29 Bishop Stang or No. 4 Hudson at a date and time to be determined.
