If the Marblehead girls lacrosse team wanted to make a statement to open the Division 2 state tournament, the No. 30 Magicians did just that when they knocked off No. 35 Tantasqua Regional by a score of 18-6 in the Round of 32 Tuesday evening at Piper Field.

Hadley Wales, who was recently named the MVP of the Northeastern Conference for her stellar play this season, led the offensive attack with five goals and three assists. Gigi Lombardi added five goals of her own, while Sydney Langton notched three goals and one assist. Lucy Wales had two goals and one assist, while Ramona Gillett finished with one goal and two assists. Caroline Scroope and Cate Honos each scored one goal in the win. Goalie Kate Santeusanio picked up the win in net after finishing the game with eight saves.

Marblehead (8-11) will now move ahead to face off against No. 3 Bedford in the Div. 2 Round of 32 at a date and time to be determined.

Sophomore defenseman Johnny Lucas had three goals and one assist in the close loss for the Tanners, while junior midfielder Danny Barrett finished the game with three goals. Senior midfielder Tyler Kalloo notched one goal, while junior goalie Derek Patturelli made seven saves.

Peabody closes out the 2022 season at 9-8.

Division 4 Round of 32

No. 6 Lynnfield 23, No. 27 Tri-County 2

The Pioneers exploded on the offensive side of the ball in a blowout win at Pioneer Stadium Tuesday evening.

Lynnfield (15-4) now moves ahead to the Div. 4 Round of 16, where the Pioneers will host either No. 11 Advanced Math & Science Academy or No. 22 Archbishop Williams at a date and time to be determined.

SOFTBALL

Division 3 Round of 16

No. 1 St. Mary’s 6, No. 16 Norton 6

The Spartans had to battle back from two different deficits in this one, including being behind 6-3 heading into the bottom of the sixth. But the Spartans exploded for five runs in that sixth inning before Lily Newhall came out and finished the job in the circle to seal the win.

On the offensive side of things, Emely Rodriguez led the way after going 2-for-3 with a home run, a double and three RBI. Brooke Moloney (2-for-3), Jenna Chaplain (1-for-4) and Anna Fringuelli (1-for-4) each had one RBI.

Newhall took home the win in the circle after going all seven innings, allowing six runs on seven hits with 11 strikeouts.

St. Mary’s (18-4) now moves on to the Div. 3 Round of 8 with the win, where the Spartans will go up against No. 8 Triton Friday (TBD).

No. 4 Hudson 8, No. 13 Bishop Fenwick 5

Bishop Fenwick closes out the 2022 season at 12-10.

Division 1 Round of 32

No. 2 King Philip 15, No. 31 Lynn Classical 0

The Rams simply couldn’t overcome the long bus ride and the high-powered King Philip offense Tuesday afternoon.

MeKayla Poisson had the lone hit for Classical in the losing effort.

Lynn Classical closes out the 2022 season at 15-7.

BOYS TENNIS

Division 4 Round of 16

Lynnfield (17-1) pushes ahead to the Div. 4 Round of 8, where the Pioneers will host either No. 7 West Bridgewater or No. 10 Lee at a date and time to be determined.
