LYNN — Lynn Woods Summer Running wrapped up its fourth session of the year Wednesday evening, with 165 runners competing across three races ranging in distance from 1.59 miles to 5.2 miles.
Normally, the same three courses — which were laid out more than 40 years ago — are run each week. But sometimes, like this past week, a guest trail master will make up a unique course that incorporates parts of Lynn Woods normally not visited by runners — dubbed “Tour de Lynn Woods.”
In the 1.59-mile long kids race, a trio of Lynn natives took the top three spots. Leading things off was Bryan Robles in first place, finishing with a time of 12:00 and winning by more than two minutes. He was followed by Eli Osgood in second place (14:16) and Jason Osgood in third place (14:17). Cambridge’s Diego Bertoldi (14:37) and Lynnfield’s Elle Ferguson (15:13) rounded out the top five, while Lynnfield’s Marne Capolupo (15:21), Lynn’s Sarah Terrien (15:45), Saugus’ Anya Vikhrau (16:32), Lynn’s Krista Cuozzo (16:49) and Lynn’s Andrew Lindsey (16:50) made up the rest of the top 10.
The next race, dubbed “Mini Tour de Lynn Woods,” was a 2.65-mile course made by trail master Eric Bowden. Taking first place was Lincoln’s Emma Kjaersgaard, who finished with a time of 19:51. The rest of the top five was made up of Saugus’ Steven Bennett (20:11), Lincoln’s Frank Kjaersgaard (20:24), Marblehead’s William Cronin (21:05) and Wakefield’s Peter Swain (21:16). Rounding out the top 10 in the race were Reading’s David Singer (22:07), Lincoln’s Stephen Yankum (22:38), Lynn’s Matthew Bushway (22:59), Peabody’s Andrea Saccardo (23:35) and Lynn’s Kevin Smart (24:33).
The final race of the evening was dubbed, “Tour de Lynn Woods,” and it was a 5.2-mile course that was once again designed by Bowden. A familiar face finished at the top of the heap — as former St. Mary’s star and current Fitchburg State runner Taban Manyok of Lynn finished the race in a time of 36:16 and won by a margin of 50 seconds. Another Lynn native — Matt Veiga — finished second overall (37:06), while Melrose’s Adam Cook (38:12), Medford’s Patrick Boyle (38:52) and Beverly’s Erich O’Neill (41:21) rounded out the top five. The rest of the top 10 was made up of Nahant’s Steve Dickenson (42:16), Lynn’s Elias Bakas (42:20), Lynn’s Alan Barrios (42:25), Lynn’s Anthony Perez Aguilar (42:38) and Salem’s Greg Esbitt (42:44).
