Tournament Roundup: Lynnfield boys lacrosse moves on to state quarterfinal

The Lynnfield boys lacrosse team has punched its ticket to the state quarterfinal round, as the No. 6 Pioneers knocked off No. 11 Advanced Math & Science Academy by a score of 14-9 in the Div. 4 tournament Round of 16 Saturday morning.

The Pioneers were led by the offensive talents of Will Steadman, who finished the game with three goals and three assists. Drew Damiani added three goals and two assists, while Jack Calichman had two goals and three assists. Will Norton notched four goals to lead the scoring attack, while Kelan Cardinal notched two goals and two assists. AJ Chiaradonna picked up seven ground balls, while goalie Ben Pimentel notched seven saves to earn the win in net. 

Lynnfield (16-4) will now be faced with its first road game of the state tournament, as the Pioneers will move on to face No. 3 Wahconah Tuesday afternoon (4:30) in the Div. 4 Round of 8.

BOYS LACROSSE

Division 1 Round of 16

No. 1 St. John’s Prep 16, No. 17 Catholic Memorial 4

It was another big day for Jimmy Ayers, who led the Prep with three goals and three assists in the win. Tommy Sarni had three goals and two assists, while Lucas Verrier had two goals and one assist. Josh Haarmann had two goals, while Chris Esposito, Luke Kelly, Matt Morrow, Harlan Graber, Joe Bullar and Trevor McInnis each scored one goal. Brendan Powers notched one assist, while Christians Rooney, Nick Bernarducci and Nolan Philpott played well on the defensive side. Goalies Teddy Cullinane (five saves) and Gavin Kornitsky (three saves) combined for the win in net. 

St. John’s Prep (19-1) now moves on to the Div. 1 Round of 8, where the Eagles will host No. 8 Needham Tuesday evening (5) back at Glatz Field. 

GIRLS LACROSSE

Division 3 Round of 16

No. 5 Pentucket 21, No. 21 Bishop Fenwick 7

Karina Gyllenhaal led the way with four goals and one assist in the loss, while Sam Montecalvo notched two goals and two assists. Goalie Courtney McKenzie made eight saves in net.

Bishop Fenwick closes out the 2022 season at 9-11.

BOYS TENNIS

Division 1 Round of 8

No. 3 Acton-Boxboro 4, No. 6 St. John’s Prep 1

St. John’s Prep wraps up the 2022 season at 17-4.
