Eleven students across eastern Massachusetts and southern New Hampshire have been awarded Metro Credit Union’s 2022 Scholarships.

Each year, Metro Credit Union selects students who are members of Metro Credit Union or have parents or guardians who are members, to receive $1,000 toward their college education. Eligible students must be planning to enroll in an accredited two- or four-year college, university, or vocational-technical school in the upcoming academic year.

The recipients this year include: Idahlia Baptiste of Methuen, Dayanara Cabrera of Lynn, Tayela Delpeche of Boston, Cassandra Israelson of Saugus, Billy Joaquin of Lawrence, Benjamin Kahn of Marblehead, Jasmeen Kaur of Pelham, N.H., Zachary Medailleu of Peabody, Izabelle Roman of Boston, Satchel Botges Arias of Roxbury, and Yariel Tejeda of Lynn.

Those selected displayed academic achievements, leadership and participation in school and community activities, unique personal or family circumstances, and work experience. Recipients provided a statement of their goals and aspirations, as well as an outside appraisal.

Public Relations Specialist Jennifer Flanagan of Metro states, “The 11 recipients displayed an eagerness to continue their educational pursuits, proven resiliency in navigating their education during a pandemic and with their own life challenges, and a desire to succeed with bright eyes for the future.”

Metro’s scholarship program seeks to support exceptional students in their college career by helping make higher education more accessible.

“We are privileged to play a small part in contributing to their success by easing some of the financial burden which often comes with seeking higher education.”

Going forward, Metro will continue to offer the scholarship and encourages rising seniors to apply in spring 2023.

Metro is Massachusetts’ largest state-chartered credit union. In addition to their scholarship program, Metro also provides financial literacy resources for people of all ages through online programs.
