MARBLEHEAD— Candidate and experienced public health official, Helaine Hazlett, is running for reelection to the Marblehead Board of Health. Voting opens to the public Tuesday, June 21.

“Ever since receiving degrees in health-related fields from the University of Pennsylvania and Columbia University, I have been dedicated to public health education,” said Hazlett.

Hazlett is passionate about being a public servant in Marblehead, and believes she is qualified to serve the town. She has worked and taught health education prior to running for reelection at the Newton Health Department.

“In addition to a strong public health background, I have working knowledge of the Town’s government. Through the numerous boards in Marblehead I have served, I have experience in town budgets, legal matters, and personal issues.”

While serving Marblehead, Hazlett will be providing ongoing support and continues to support COVID-19 vaccine clinics and outdoor dining. She will remain an advocate for the physical and mental wellness of Marblehead’s residents.

“Despite having to make some difficult decisions, ensuring the health and well-being of our residents is my primary goal. Through the Mental Health Task Force, I will address the serious rise in mental health issues in our community.”

Marblehead BOH members are impressed with Hazlett’s proven track record of creating a healthier community.

“Helaine’s leadership has been integral throughout my tenure on the BOH. She leads with care and confidence and always convenes with thoughtful insights and crucial curiosity,” said Joanne G. Miller, Marblehead BOH director.

Hazlett is confident that her experience counts. She continues championing environmental initiatives, such as seasonal beach testing, regulating pesticide use on town playing fields, and the banning of plastic bags and styrofoam containers in order to reach the town’s goals of being carbon-free by 2040.

“I plan to work with the schools and police to increase drug and alcohol awareness and lower opioid addiction; and to work with the Green Community Committee to be carbon free,” said Hazlett.
