All the dates, times, and venues have been selected for MIAA state tournament games for today and Saturday.

The Peabody softball team is in action today (5:30) at Sortino Field at UMass Amherst (see preview elsewhere on the page).

Two other teams will also be playing to either advance or win it all Saturday. St. John’s Prep, no stranger to deep runs in the boys lacrosse tournament, is at it again. The Eagles will be playing Saturday morning (10:30) at Burlington High School in the Division 1 state semifinal. The Eagles advanced to the field of four Tuesday with a 16-5 win in the Round of 16 over Needham.

While The Prep may be used to playing for all the stakes, the Lynnfield boys tennis team is not. The No. 2 Pioneers, who advanced to the Division 4 North final last year, have taken their games to the next level. Saturday (4:30) at the DuPont Tennis Courts at MIT in Cambridge, boys will compete in their first-ever state championship match when they face top-seeded Weston.

The venue enables boys and girls matches to be played simultaneously.

“It will enable the MIAA to host all eight state championship finals at one site,” said tournament director Ron Ford. “It has been our vision to host this championship event at a collegiate-level facility. The MIAA Tennis Tournament Leadership Team is thrilled to be hosting the first MIAA Statewide Team Tennis Championships in a venue that allows our student-athletes, coaches, and fans to proudly celebrate the sport of high school tennis and the teams competing for a State Championship.”

MIAA match play begins at 9 a.m. with an all-day ticket available to purchase online at: https://gofan.co/app/school/MIAA?activity=Tennis.
