United Lynn Pride to host week of celebrations

Emma Fringuelli

June 16, 2022 by Emma Fringuelli

LYNN — United Lynn Pride, an LGBTQ+ advocacy organization, will be hosting a variety of events between June 20 and June 24 across the city to celebrate Pride Month.

Events will range from social mixers to live performances. The celebrations are aimed at residents of all ages who want to show their support for the community.

The week starts with a free Pride Panel and Gallery Reception on June 20 from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at the Lynn Museum. The panelists will discuss their lived experiences of being LGBTQ+ in Lynn, with a mixer to follow.

Tuesday night will be packed with events. The first event will be held at 4:30 p.m., when the Pride flag is raised at City Hall, a celebration that will include numerous local officials. Then, St. Stephen’s Church will host “Pride, Food, and Fellowship,” an event where one can “enjoy a free meal with your fellow Pride partygoers after the flag raising, and before the rainbow bridge lighting.” The final event will be the second annual rainbow bridge underpass lighting ceremony.

For those looking to get moving, there will be a Zumbathon at the Lynn YMCA on Thursday.

The week concludes with a Friday evening event to celebrate LGBTQ+ youth with food, activities, and live music. For adults, head to Uncommon Feasts for “Stratosphere,” a night full of dancing, entertainment, and color to close out the week.

Pride in Lynn formally began in 2010 with a small group of people raising a Pride flag across the street from City Hall. Since then, Pride has become more widely recognized in the city.

After the pandemic halted Pride events in 2020 and 2021, The United Lynn Pride committee formed as a way to connect existing LGBTQ+ groups and create a larger celebration.

More information about the week of events can be found on the United Lynn Pride website.
