LYNN — Forty seven students from Lynn Classical High School were inducted as members of the National Honor Society.
Each member was chosen by the Mary Ben Chapter’s faculty council for meeting high standards of scholarship, service, leadership, and character. Classical High School’s chapter is one of the oldest chapters in the country. Every year the chapter sponsors service projects for the school and community. These service projects include, Walk for Hunger, Walk for My Brother Table, Freezing for a Reason, informational guides at LCH Open House, assisting local families affected by fire, hosting food drives, and volunteering at elementary holiday and field events.
“We are very proud to recognize these outstanding members of our student body. National Honor Society members are chosen for and then expected to continue their exemplary contributions to the school and community,” said Chapter Advisor, Christine Lander.
The NHS ranks as one of the oldest, most prestigious national organizations for high school students. In more than 16,000 high schools with chapters in formulation since 1921, millions of students have been selected for membership. Millions of dollars in scholarships have been awarded to senior members since 1945. These scholarships have been sponsored by an organization known as the National Association of Secondary School principals.
The Classical High school chapter is named after Dr. Mary Bemis, who retired from Lynn Classical after her time as a chemistry teacher and guidance counselor. Under her leadership, high academic standards set the bar for the Lynn Classical NHS.
