WORCESTER — Lynnfield’s Tommy Sarn ended his senior year at St. John’s Prep with two state championships.
Sarni took care of title No. 1 in March when the Prep hockey team defeated Xaverian to win the Division 1 state title. And he polished off another one Tuesday, when St. John’s beat BC High, 10-5, for the state lacrosse title.
“Feels good,” he said. “I pass off to the coaching staff. We wouldn’t be here without them. It’s just as rewarding as the first two times. We don’t look into who we play too much but obviously, it’s always nice. “The first half was really fought by both sides. They came out on fire and sort of rebutted. I’m glad we picked up in the third quarter.”
This was his third trip to the lacrosse final and his second win.
“I think I have been playing since I was 2 or 3-years-old,” he said. “My dad played, you know, and my brother played. So I mean it’s just been a part of my life for as long as I can remember. I wouldn’t be who I am without lacrosse.”
Sarni has been with the lacrosse team for the past four years, going to three state championships, and building strong bonds with the other players.
“I love all the seniors, every one of them,” said junior Jimmy Ayers. “Sarni’s been my brother for the whole time I’ve been here. I mean we’ve been through three state championships together. So, he’s special to me along with everyone else. So I’m definitely going to be sad to see him go.”
Next year Sarni will be at Princeton where he will continue playing lacrosse and will put his hockey career on hold.
