NAHANT — Four people, including a 7-year-old child, were rescued off the coast Sunday when their boat began taking on water, police said.
The boat “became swamped” with water about a mile from shore, said Lt. Stephen Shultz. All four people were rescued by a good Samaritan boat in the area and then transferred to a friend’s boat who responded.
No one was injured in the incident, police said.
The sinking boat was towed back to Winthrop by a friend, police said.
“It can be very dangerous, especially if not everyone is prepared with life preservers and signaling devices on the boat. They were fortunate. They did have life preservers on the boat,” Shultz said.
