NAHANT — With the first of the town’s farmers markets rapidly approaching, officials are still seeking vendors to fill the grassy area between Flash Road Playground and the fire station.
“We are looking for craft and food vendors, local farms, community groups, and more to join our markets,” the statement on the town website reads.
The Nahant Farmers Market will be held on July 16, Aug. 20, and Sept. 17, the town said in a statement. The farmers market represents a community gathering space where locally sourced foods and artisan crafts offer a cultural experience for participants. The venue seeks to enlighten and strengthen the local community through camaraderie, educational opportunities, and inclusion and advocacy for all people.
Starting this summer, the town plans to hold the event on a regular basis to support local artists, businesses, nonprofits, and community groups — all while bringing people together.
“The cooperative efforts of all of our vendors aim to preserve the small businesses we know and love while engaging a memorable social atmosphere,” the statement said.
Food vendor applicants must submit copies of licenses, permits, and certifications. Craft vendors must submit photos/examples of their work/provide links to websites/portfolios. Each vendor must fill out and sign the vendor application and policies form and read and sign the code of conduct.
Vendors are expected to start selling at the designated opening time and be present in their assigned space no later than 15 minutes prior to opening hours as a courtesy to their customers. Penalties might apply at vendors’ failure to comply with the rules.
If a vendor is not able to attend the market, they must inform the market manager of their expected absence no later than 36 hours prior to the market date. All vendors should have a copy of their food establishment permit from their hometown, a copy of their certified food managers, and a copy of their allergen video certificate.
Vendors must also be able to produce any licenses, certifications, and permits required by law for all products. Taxes and liability insurance are the responsibility of the individual vendor. Vendors will be assigned spaces based upon the potential accommodations needed. Parking will be available in the main parking lot.
Nahant hosted its first Farmers Market at Flash Road Park in 2021 with more than twenty local artisans, food vendors, businesses, community groups, and town departments coming together to help kick off what the town hoped would become a regular event.
“With a bouncy house, corn maze, crafts, art, and community involvement opportunities, this was an event for the young and old,” the statement said.
