Wyoma softball team wins district title

The Wyoma Little League Softball All-Star team captured the District 16 title Tuesday night at Lynn Woods Park with a 9-8 win over Peabody.

The big gun offensively for Wyoma was Kaylee Dinicola, who went 3-for-4 and scored a run. 

The game turned on some timely defensive plays by Wyoma, coming from Gabby Doney with a huge catch in left; Sienna White and Lina Owumi with great defense up the middle and Kiley Schipilletti with an outstanding night at first base. 

LYNN BABE RUTH

Lynn 15s, Peabody 0

Lynn’s three pitchers didn’t allow a single hit. Lynn secured the victory thanks to seven runs in the second inning, driven by singles from Jaiden Driscoll, Kyle Cummings, and Matt Lewis, a walk by Richie Avery, and by Christian Figueroa.

Josh Doney was the winning pitcher, allowing no hits and no runs over two innings, striking out six and walking none. Jared Paone and Newhall entered the game out of the bullpen and helped to close out the game in relief.

Stevens took the loss for Peabody All Stars 15. The hurler surrendered eight runs on five hits over one and two-thirds innings, striking out three.

Cummings led Lynn with two hits in three at bats. Lynn also didn’t commit a single error.

Lynn 13s 10, Somerville 0

In Somerville, In the initial 13-year-old game of the District 1 tournament, Lynn defeated Somerville 10-0 in five innings. Pitcher Mark Walsh went all five innings, carrying a perfect game into the fifth before allowing two hits. Still, he recorded the shutout. 

Offensively, Kalen Huddle was 2-for-2 with a walk, and Tyler Freni scored two runs. 

The team also played well defensively. 

Lynn’s next game is Thursday (6) in Arlington.

Lynn 14s 12, Marblehead 0

At Seaside Park in Marblehead, Justini Jennings pitched four innings of one-hit ball and David Palmer finished up in a game that lasted five innings. 

Most of the players got hits, Manager Joe Peterson said. Rogie Brea Arias got a three-run double in the first inning to get Lynn off and running.

Devin Duval had two walks, and Jake Peterson was 2-for-2 with a walk and scored two runs. 

Lynn plays next Thursday in Newton.
