The Lynn Babe Ruth 15-year-old All Stars traveled to Newton Wednesday, cruising to an easy 7-1 victory and taking a commanding 2-0 in the District 1 tournament, North bracket.
The win came on the heels of Lynn’s victory last night over Peabody in the first game of the tournament.
Lynn 15s fired up the offense in the top of the first inning with Chris Marks driving in a run with a sacrifice fly. Newton got that one back in the bottom of the first on a base-loaded walk by Ryan Huckabone.
But Lynn pulled away for good with one run in the fourth inning on an error, and then scored three more runs in the fifth. Kyle Cummings and Marks each drove in runs during the inning.
Marks led Lynn on the mound, going five innings, allowing two hits and one run, while striking out five. Josh Doney threw two innings in relief.
Ben Parker took the loss for Newton, allowing two hits and one run over three innings, striking out one.
Lynn racked up ten hits. Richie Avery and Seth Sullivan had two hits.
Lynn was also perfect in the field.
