The good times keep rolling for Lynn seniors who are settling into their new Senior Center on Friend Street and now have the option of enjoying lunch while they are there.
As of last week, lunch is being served daily at the center, which is open Monday-Friday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. until July 11 when the hours change from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. There is a suggested $3 donation, which is optional, according to Chris Gomez, director of Elder Services.
The city contracts with a catering company to provide the lunches, with approximately 40 hot and 20 cold meals delivered per day. A salad and milk are also included.
“We are pleased to be offering meals to seniors. Our attendance is increasing rapidly,” said Gomez, adding that the average attendance at the Senior Center is 45-50.
The seniors have also enjoyed a few special events, including an ice cream party and outing to a Red Sox game.
Gomez said the city will soon be offering transportation to and from the Senior Center.
“This is what we had in mind when the city secured this property,” said Mayor Jared C. Nicholson. “Our seniors waited a long time for this and we are thrilled to see them taking advantage of it.”
