LYNN — Lynn Shore Drive once again became a mosaic of red, white, and blue as thousands of people gathered at King’s Beach to celebrate the Fourth of July.
Spanning from the Swampscott Town Hall Lawn past Red Rock Park, fireworks watchers camped out on lawn chairs and beach towels. People dining on the top deck of Swampscott’s Mission on the Bay had the best seats in the area as the sun set on the water.
Families danced around Lynn’s Red Rock Park as Lois Lane and the Daily Planets played music for the crowd. Kids were decked out with glow sticks and what can only be described as patriotic light sabers.
Evelyn Munoz, a Lynn native, said she had been coming to Red Rock for the July 3 fireworks since she was little.
“It’s an every year type of thing.” This year, she brought Deniss Munoz for his first time.
Lydia Fernette moved from New York and has called Nahant home since 1989. She said that she was “bummed out” by the pandemic canceling all the festivities. Now that the concerts and fireworks are back, Fernette said, “I wasn’t going to miss my girl Lois!”
Even the children were dancing to the music. When asked why he was celebrating, Raymon Deihl-Butterworth said, ”I love this song!” Ariell Nicole Riley said she enjoyed the celebrations because “It’s a nice community and it’s really nice and peaceful.”
On the Swampscott Town Hall Lawn, crowds enjoyed live music and food trucks, including the Whoopie Wagon and Kowloon.
Around 9 p.m., darkness came over the crowd, but was soon dissipated by the incredible show of color and sound from the fireworks.
After the fireworks, as if by tradition, the crowd made their exodus from the shore, slightly deafened by the explosive display.
