NAHANT – The first two weeks after Independence Day are going to be busy ones for Nahant Public Library.
The schedule, along with the usual events such as story times and crafternoons, also includes Burpee’s Petting Zoo, Summer Music Series, and Through Me to You Puppetry show.
Kids are invited to come to the traveling petting zoo Records and Burpee’s on July 6 at 67 Flash Road from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. The event will feature different kinds of barn animals. Children will have a chance to pet and feed the animals while enjoying time with friends.
“Join us for some animal fun,” runs the library flier.
Records and Burpee offers a variety of first-class educational programs and attractions. The animals appear at fairs, parks, schools, libraries, museums, special events, promotions, television programs, and in advertising.
A family couple, Lawrence Records and Alexandra Burpee, founded Records and Burpee animal shows in 1987. Their experience in animal care, exhibition and training goes back to 1971.
“Our animal family is seen live by more than a million people annually,” reads the company’s official website.
Burpee’s Petting Zoo is made possible by the Friends of the Library, as well as another summer library attraction – Through Me to Your Puppetry that is scheduled to take place on July 12 from10-11 a.m. at 67 Flash Road (Flash Road Park).
“Thanks to the Friends of the Library, we’re excited to bring Leigh Baltzer of Through Me To You Puppetry,” reads the library website.
Through Me To You Puppetry will show in Nahant a puppet play session that includes stories and songs performed by the puppets. The program is interactive and allows the kids to engage both their minds and bodies during the show and to try out hand puppets and finger puppets. The program is geared to ages 3-7, “but all are welcome.” says the website.
“Newton and his puppet friends take turns reading stories and singing songs with the kids. At the end of the show, the kids are invited to say hi to Newton,” reads the library’s website.
Through Me To You Puppetry is committed to exploring themes of love, courage, and compassion through the wonderful and wonder-filled world of puppets. Its mission, the company’s website reads, is to support anyone who believes in themselves in following their dreams.
“And does not let doubt or fear stop them,” reads the website.
Same day when Through Me To You Puppetry takes place, July 12, the library also hosts its Pen Pal Drop-In weekly session, but it will be held from 2-3 p.m.instead of the usual schedule from 11 a.m.noon “due to a scheduling conflict,” according to the library website.
For its adult visitors Nahant Public Library offers a Summer Music Series that starts on July 7 at 6:30 p.m. with an hour of music by Nahant resident Lisa Haley. The library website invites the visitors to join Summer Music Series events on the shaded back lawn (or inside in case of rain) July , 14,and 21 for some relaxing, musical evenings.
“We have three great musicians lined up, and a nice mix of musical styles,” reads the library official website.
Gian Carlo Buscaglia plays soothing, classic Spanish and Latin American songs July 14, and July 21. Berklee-trained musician Chris James plays some indie and classic rock covers as well as some of his original compositions.
