LYNN — A 24-unit residential building is coming to the site of an old onion ring factory on Neptune Boulevard.
The Lynn Development Team approved Lynn business owner Manuel Robles’ proposal for the site earlier this month under the condition that three units would be used for affordable housing.
Of the 24 one-bedroom and two-bedroom units Robles plans to build on 21 Neptune Blvd., two will be set at 50 percent area median income and the other will be set at 80 percent.
Robles’ attorney, Daniel Cahill, said the residential complex will help fill the growing demand for housing in the city.
“Not much need for an onion ring factory these days apparently, but there is a need for quality housing as we all know,” said Cahill.
Robles’ other attorney, Nate Spinney, will go appear before the City Council on July 12, to seek approval of additional designated street parking spots, and Cahill will meet with the Zoning Board of Approvals on July 19.
Cahill said that Robles’ development will ultimately better the city of Lynn.
“He has other rental properties and he has experience working with affordable housing and he thought that this would be able to provide some quality housing for folks,” Cahill said. “This isn’t a big-time developer who’s coming in from out of town, this is a local business owner who sees the need for quality affordable housing and is very happy to do so … It will really fit in the neighborhood with the new YMCA and some other upgrades that have been done to the area. It will be good for the neighborhood.”
