LYNNFIELD — The Historical Commission paid homage to the Historical Society’s contributions to the town, unveiling a plaque commending the Society’s presidents for “decades of impeccable preservation.”
“The Meeting House is an iconic structure within our community, and there are so many volunteers within the Lynnfield Historical Society who need to be acknowledged,” Historical Commission Chair Kirk Mansfield said. “Presidents Katherine Ross, Shirley Northrup, Edie Richard, Arthur Foulds, Nan Hockenbury, and Donald Harris — just to name a few — are people whose actions not only left an indelible mark, but showed us that leadership is not a privilege, but a responsibility.”
The plaque will be hung in the Meeting House, which, while previously managed by the Society, is now managed by the Commission. Since taking over in 2021, the Commission has gone to great lengths to restore the building’s unique charm and place in the town’s history.
Historical photographs of iconic town landmarks and businesses have been framed and are displayed in various locations inside the building. Plans are underway to renovate the kitchen with appliance upgrades and a new floor plan that will better suit the needs of caterers.
Mansfield said it was only fitting that the Commission also take the opportunity to honor the Society’s presidents as yet another step toward preserving history.
“I truly hope this plaque, which will be hung in the Meeting House, will ensure their contributions to our town’s history are remembered for generations to come,” he said.
