PEABODY – Four home runs in two days? No problem for 12-year-old Little League All-Star Mike Harris of Peabody.
Harris hit two homers in Peabody’s 9-1 win over the weekend against Lynnfield. Then, he hit another two home runs in his next game — a 7-4 loss to Swampscott.
“So he hit two yesterday and two today. He was seeing the ball,” said Peabody manager Rick DeLoreto. “When he keeps that backside strong it’s pretty easy for him to get it out of here. Four home runs in two days is pretty special.
In the Lynnfield game Harris sent them over the fence in the top of the third and fourth inning. While in the Swampscott game the balls found their way into the woods behind the center field fence during the top of the first and third innings.
“I was just trying to get a base hit. To help out the team and just get runs,” said Mike Harris. “I wasn’t looking for it. He gave me a good pitch to hit and I just got the barrel.”
Harris also had hit an RBI double in the game against Lynnfield. As well as made an amazing over-his-head jump catch to end the top of the sixth in the game against Swampscott.
“I was just trying to help the team. We needed to get back a couple runs and if that ball went by me they would have scored another run,” said Harris. “So just trying to help the team and to get back into the game.”
Harris was always running out to get the bats that were left on the field. He also took a moment at the end of the Swampscott game to say some words of encouragement to teammate Nolan Barber as he went up to bat in the bottom of the sixth with two outs.
“Usually when something like that happens, it just sparks everybody. But I think we kind of got into a place at the end. But, he is a great ball player, a great ball player,” said DeLoreto. “ Pitched the hell of a game against Peabody West, and then yesterday caught fire. That’s great stuff. You don’t see that too often.”
