SAUGUS — A 21-year-old Lynn man was pronounced dead early Monday morning after being pulled from Silver Lake in Breakheart Reservation in “grave condition” Sunday evening, State Police said.

Maynor Salas Lopez was at the reservation with family members Sunday and entered Silver Lake around 5 p.m., David Procopio, a spokesman for State Police, said. Lopez then began to struggle in the water and was pulled out of the lake by Saugus Police Officers Thomas DiPietro, David Harris, and Jenna Fennelly.

First responders immediately began performing CPR on Lopez, and he was taken to Melrose-Wakefield Hospital where he received emergency care but remained in critical condition.

The incident remains under investigation by State Police assigned to the Essex County district attorney’s office.
