NAHANT — The town’s first farmers’ market of the summer was a roaring success, with numerous vendors displaying their wares.
Farmers’ Market Manager Kristin Taylor said that 13 vendors took part in the event, and that they represented local crafts, food businesses, and community groups. Some of the local community organizations, including Nahant Public Library and Forty Steps Dance, wanted to get a larger reach of their services to the public and educate their audiences about their most recent activities.
The Historical Society was selling pictures of the area around Nahant and a variety of town history books, such as “Images of America: Nahant,” “East Point Through Times,” “Dog Collars,” and key chains. Copper Dog Books, another local book distributor, also sold books at the event.
The town also has several jewelry places, said Taylor, some of which were present at the farmers’ market, such as Addie Parker Jewelry, Ocean Based Art by Ariana Casella, and Seaglass Jewelry and Crafts by Diana Berry.
These are all hand-made jewelry, said Taylor, and Ocean Based Art and Seaglass Jewelry also produces jewelry made with sea glass.
Along with the jewelry, the local crafts present at the market included hand-painted pottery from Barn Moth Studio and hand painted seashells by Seaside Blue Creations.
“They are so beautiful. I bought one,” said Taylor.
Al’s Hives and Honey represented the local food industry with its local honey and Jamboleo Jams with homemade jams and marmalade.
At least 100 guests from surrounding communities came to the event, ranging “from little kids to seniors.” Now Nahant awaits its two remaining farmers’ markets, which are planned to take place on Aug. 20 and Sept. 17 in the grassy area between Flash Road Playground and the fire station, from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m
