LYNN — James O’Shea, one of two candidates running to succeed retiring Essex County District Attorney Jonathan Blodgett, announced Wednesday that he had received the endorsement of the Lynn Police Association.
“I am delighted to receive the endorsement from the Lynn Police Association, they only know from first-hand experience the best candidate to succeed DA Blodgett,” O’Shea said in a statement. “I am in the courtrooms all across Essex County and the rest of the Commonwealth on a daily basis, and this job is too important for a candidate like my opponent who needs on the job training. I’m equipped to run this office from day one, and it’s heartening to receive this vote of affirmation by my police brethren.”
President of the Lynn Police Association, Timothy Donovan, said he has known O’Shea for more than two decades and “observed his competence and integrity first hand.”
“Despite the adversarial nature of our jobs, Attorney O’Shea has always treated the officers that appear in court on his cases with professionalism and respect. Our union is proud to endorse him based on his superior qualifications and our regular interactions with him,” Donovan said in the statement.
O’Shea is running against Paul Tucker, who currently serves as a state representative for the 7th Essex District.
Tucker, a former Salem police chief, could not be reached for comment on the endorsement.
