LYNN — The newly installed splash pads at Barry Park opened to the public on Wednesday, completing the first phase of a now two-year long project to improve the park.
The splash pads, and new multi-purpose court will be open from 8:00 a.m. until 8:00 p.m. each day, for children to cool off from the oppressive heat that has scorched the region in recent days.
Community Development Facilities Manager Eda Matchak, who was involved with the project, said that when she left the park Wednesday afternoon after a quick visit, she had already seen people leaving the area and that she hoped to see more as the week progressed.
“I left Barry Park a few minutes ago. There were already some residents waiting to go in and cool off and the water will be on until 8:00 p.m., so we’re hoping that it’s utilized throughout the rest of the week,” Matchak said. “We’re excited to start the work over at Barry Park and we hope that the park’s well-received by the residents, and our goal is to make Barry Park among other signature parks throughout the city.”
