LYNNFIELD — Rising senior Alex Gentile is ready to take on the upcoming season at Lynnfield High.
Gentile is one of the captains for the varsity baseball team, where he was voted most valuable player by his teammates last season.
“I have been playing since I can remember: football, baseball, basketball, and soccer,” said Gentile.
Gentile was voted CAL (Cape Ann League) first-team All-Star for baseball and soccer.
“Soccer, I was excited because we had a really good year. I was proud of all the work that I put in and that it was paying off. Obviously it’s a prestigious honor to be named First-Team in the league with a lot of other great players,” said Gentile. “I was so excited when I got that. Baseball we didn’t have the best year but also seeing my work in the off season paying off. I was really happy, like getting those awards is a big honor. It’s good to see that what I am doing is paying off.”
He led his team in hits as well as RBI’s while batting 457 this past season. If playing varsity baseball wasn’t enough, Gentile also plays on the soccer and basketball teams too.
“A lot of times we were in situations where we needed a hit or we needed a big run scored. I was lucky enough where most of the time I’d really get it done,” said Gentile. “As long as it helps the team win, I’m fine with it. Approach wise, just looking for pitches I can hit and doing my thing. Not trying to do too much and trying to do what is best for our team.”
There are big plans and goals being set for this upcoming school year.
“For soccer I would like to win the Cape Ann title for our team. We won it my sophomore year but the pandemic cut the season in half. And I wanna win it not legit, sophomore year we put in a lot of work but, this year with a full season,” said Gentile. “I kinda want to put Lynnfield on the map even more as a true powerhouse. And hopefully we can make a big run in the state tournament if we can get there. We got a good team, a young team but we’re going to be really good.”
Not only are they being set in soccer but in basketball and baseball as well. “Basketball wise, trying to make the playoffs there,” said Gentile. “Baseball, we’re going to have a really good team next year. Try to win Cape Ann and we can make a big run in the playoffs. We definitely have the kids to do it.”
Like every high schooler the thought of what happens after graduation looms over head. “There have been a few schools that have reached out. I’m not particularly set on one school or another. But, there have been a couple that have shown some interest and definitely more things to come in the future I hope,” said Gentile. “With baseball and soccer if the right opportunity presents itself then I’ll definitely look forward to hopefully pursuing that even more.”
