Select Board approves liquor license for new restaurant

LYNNFIELD — The Select Board voted unanimously to approve an annual all-alcohol beverage license, an entertainment for music and guitar license, and a victualler license for a new restaurant opening at MarketStreet this summer.

The licenses were granted for the new Mediterranean restaurant “La Gallina” on Monday. La Gallina will be located toward the residential side of the MarketStreet plaza, in place of the previous California Pizza Kitchen. Both restaurant owners Mathias Coombe and James Wesoloewski were present for the meeting.

Coombe’s wife has been living with her family in Lynnfield since 1973. Her father owned and founded the Northshore franchise “Captain Pizza.”

Because of his wife’s roots, Coombe said there was “no better place to start a business” and he looks forward to opening the business with his partner.

“Even though we are not Mediterranean, we have traveled to the Mediterranean and rocked the Mediterranean extensively,” he said. “I look forward to being a part of the community.”

The menu will feature items from “Greece to Spain,” where customers can enjoy “craft cocktails, a mix of small plates like croquetas de jamon or burrata with peaches, crispy oven-baked pizzas, charcoal grilled seafood, and marinated skewered meats,” according to the company’s website.

David Moynihan, whose home abuts MarketStreet, opposed the decision and said he is “concerned” about the potential noise that will come with the new restaurant, given that he has complained about the noise from the plaza before, to no avail.

“There is also conversation and noise at the property line of the residential abutters,” he said. “It’s supposed to be the equivalent of a ‘casual conversation;’ that isn’t what I hear. ”

The property design will feature an outdoor patio with 40 additional chairs with plans to hang string lights and play background music.
