MARBLEHEAD — The police department is on track to welcome two new police officers after approval from the Board of Selectmen Wednesday night.
The Selectmen voted unanimously to extend conditional offers of employment to Abigail Leblanc and Michael Farewell. The two new officers will be filling vacancies in the police force that opened up earlier in 2022.
Leblanc is a Marblehead native and graduated from Marblehead High in 2014, after which she served a year in the military. Leblanc then went to Salem State University and graduated in 2021.
Farewell, also of Marblehead, graduated from Lynn Tech in 2011. His career has focused on privacy security services and he worked in a supervisory role in bank protection.
Police Chief Dennis King said that after a background check and interviewing process, Leblanc and Farewell were chosen because they exemplified values that align with those of the town and the department.
“My opinion is that they possess the qualities that we’re looking for in our police officers in the town of Marblehead,” King said.
Leblanc and Farewell will become permanent full-time officers upon passing medical, psychological, and physical ability examinations.
