Tedesco Four-ball Invitational in full swing

MARBLEHEAD — The main flight of Tedesco Country Club’s 83rd rendition of the Bob Green Invitational Four-Ball kicked off Thursday.

Sixty four teams will battle it out from Thursday to Sunday to crown the 2022 main flight champion in a matchplay bracket. Each team is guaranteed three rounds of golf and a practice round. However, a loss pushes teams to the consolation bracket.

In tandem with the main flight tournament, there is also a Round-A-Day (RAD) flight that consists of a 16-team bracket with the same format as the main flight that began Wednesday.

Thursday’s atmosphere had everyone enjoying their time, even in what was some nasty heat throughout the morning and afternoon. Up at the first tee, the club offers food and drinks and a nice seating area whether you are waiting to tee off or have just finished a round.

“It is fun because you see a lot of people that come from out of town that come play in it. The club does a great job with the food. The whole atmosphere is fun,” said Mike Eruzione.

“You cannot ask for anything better, and hey, it is August, and we are playing golf. How can you beat that,” he continued.

Like Eruzione said, even folks from out of town come out to play in the invitational, such as Rocco Maggiotto, who was thrilled with the experience.

“I am a visitor –– first time I played in this tournament. I thought the way it was split into the two groups is very, very good. It helped us all feel good about playing and competing,” said Maggiotto.

“From that standpoint, I think it is a well-designed, lot of fun, tournament,” he added.

When players finished up, there was one thing everyone agreed on: the course’s condition.

“This is the granddaddy of them all. This basically splits the summer, before the four-ball and after-four ball — the course has never been in better condition. This is as good as I have ever seen it. I have been here for 36 years,” said Dan Santanello.

Steven Hayes, who partnered up with Santanello, agreed, saying, “I have been here my whole life. I was born on Salem Street. Best it has ever been. I am on a couple committees here, not that it matters, but it is perfect.”

Overall, the 83rd Tedesco Four-Ball Invitational is getting rave reviews and will only improve as it continues.

“They are very well run. It is always great to see the people that keep coming back year after year,” said Santanello.
