LYNNFIELD — The School Committee is preparing to turn the page into the new academic year — beginning with a new district handbook.
It appears that this new handbook will be a digital superbook — an accessible browser that contains information about all of the town’s schools in one spot.
“We referenced Swampscott’s district handbook,” said Superintendent Kristen S. Vogel. “We are hoping this helps families know who to call when they have a question.”
“We heard from families that our handbooks were difficult to access and our expectations were not clear in the way that they were being communicated,” Vogel added.
Lynnfield Middle School Principal Stephen Ralston noted, “As far as the middle school piece of the handbook, nothing has changed.”
“Ditto,” replied Lynnfield High School Principal Robert Cleary before sharing a laugh with his colleagues.
The creation of a super-handbook was “a Herculean task,” said board member Jamie Hayman.
Vice Chair Stacey Dahlstedt, who served as chair at Tuesday’s meeting since Rich Sjoberg could not attend, praised the new handbook.
“I really like that students are being held accountable.”
Board member Kate DePrizio specifically appreciated how the handbook states “it’s our policy to start with the person closest to the situation.” DePrizio liked this aspect because, as a parent, she wants to “make sure that we are being heard.”
Also at this meeting, the committee introduced Lynnfield Middle School’s new Assistant Principal Jeremy Greenwood.
