SWAMPSCOTT — The sun shone brightly as the Swampscott Housing Authority and Swampscott Senior Tenant Association celebrated the town’s police department on Thursday.

The celebration began with Housing Authority Executive Director Irma Chez giving welcoming remarks.

“This is the first time that the Swampscott Housing Authority and the Swampscott Tenant Authority have held a ceremony to show their appreciation to the Swampscott Police Department,” Chez said. “This is an opportunity for all of us to express our appreciation for the commitment shown by our police officers.”

Joe Spindler, president of the Swampscott Senior Tenant Association, introduced the luncheon-goers to Chief Ruben Quesada.

“Sometimes we don’t get to see people who are here to thank us, and we really appreciate you being here and recognizing our staff,” said Quesada. “Our officers care about the community and they care about you, and because they’ve been here, they live here, they are the community along with you. So again, I just want to say a sincere thank you to everybody.”

Cynthia Tennant, vice treasurer of the Swampscott Housing Board and vice president of the Swampscott Senior Tenant Association, presented Quesada and his officers with a celebratory plaque.

Housing Authority Chairman Richard Callahan presented Officer Savy Caruso with a separate plaque, honoring his time as the liaison to the housing authority.

“On behalf of our tenants, our staff, and everybody involved in this, we want to thank you for your professionalism, your courtesy, and your kindness,” Callahan said.

The ceremony ended with a vibrant lunch.
