MONDAY: REP CANDIDATE FORUM IN MARBLEHEAD

For the Item

August 26, 2022 by For the Item

MARBLEHEAD — Essex Media Group’s newest publication, Marblehead Weekly News, will host a forum Monday evening featuring the six candidates seeking to represent the 8th Essex District.

The 8th, which covers Swampscott, Marblehead and parts of Lynn, has been vacant since Lori Ehrlich took a position in President Joe Biden’s administration. The race to replace her has drawn three candidates who list Swampscott as their primary residence, and three who list Marblehead as their primary residence.

The forum is open to the public and tickets are not required. Questions will focus on issues facing the town of Marblehead.

All six candidates — Jenny Armini, Diann Slavit Baylis, Tristan Smith, Terri Tauro, Polly Titcomb, and Doug Thompson — are Democrats, meaning the race will effectively be decided by the Sept. 6
primary.

Upon election, state representatives serve two-year terms and are not subject to term limits. The elected candidate will assume office on the first Wednesday in January 2023.

The forum will be held at Marblehead High School at 6 p.m. Marblehead Weekly News editor Thor Jourgensen will moderate.

In addition to Marblehead Weekly News, Essex Media Group publishes the Daily Item and eight other print publications, and related websites.
