SWAMPSCOTT — Big Blue’s varsity boys soccer took on Lynn Tech in a scrimmage game Monday evening at Blocksidge Field.

“We have 14 players returning from last year so the idea was to look at the positions. Then look at those who are on the bench to see who can play the remaining positions,” said Lynn Tech’s Coach Eric Moreno. “I started with a 4-4-2 formation before changing to a 4-3-3 formation because I wanted to see how the team reacted to two different formations and we did good.”

Pedro Bamanca, Gregoire Amissi, Alan Mendez, and Alan DeLeon all scored for Lynn Tech.

“We got some work to do but we got to develop the new players on the bench. I’m very happy about what they did today already,” said Moreno. “The last goal was actually by our goalie. He said ‘coach I want to play in the field.’ so I was like okay go play forward and he scored. It’s a scrimmage game, you see things like that, things like that don’t happen often. So, it’s cool when it does.”

On the other side of the field, Swampscott fiddled around with the positions of new players. “This was an opportunity to get some live action against another competitive squad. Lynn Tech, I believe, went to the semis in Division 4 last year, so we knew coming into the scrimmage that they are a good team,” said Swampscott’s Coach Adam Bailey. “We have a young squad, we have some returning varsity players and I believe nine players that are new to the team.”

Andrew Freger scored the single goal for Swampscott. “We got a lot of things we need to work out. But this is a great opportunity to kind of go live and in prep for that first game. We tested a couple of different formations today and I think we figured out where our strengths lie so we will kind of finalize that as we move forward,” said Bailey. “Scrimmages are always great because they don’t really count towards anything. So, it is a great opportunity and way to try new things. We have another scrimmage against Lynn English this Tuesday, so we will get to test and try a few more things out.”
