DANVERS — The Lynn Classical Rams took on The St. John’s Prep Eagles in their last scrimmage before the season starts on Friday. The final score of the game was 22-8 for St. John’s Prep.
“This is one of the best programs in the state year in and year out, so it is a great opportunity for our kids to go against. They have a lot of good talent, and we can measure ourselves and see what we need to fix and what we need to correct,” said Lynn Classical’s Coach Brian Vaughan.
Lynn Classical scored on RJ Feassler’s 10-yard pass to John Nasky with the two-point conversion by Feassler. Classical’s main focus wasn’t so much on the score but on how the team was playing in general as they tried to find the best strategy for them.
“For us, at the end of the day, we are doing a new offense, and normally with no-huddle spread, we are switching our whole philosophy up just so we can find what fits us as a program right now with the kids we have,” said Vaughan. “We ran some double-tight and two-end sets; we just wanted to see if we would be able to come out here and move the ball a little bit and control the clock a little bit. I think we had some success at doing that, but there is always room for improvement down the road.”
The Rams are taking everything one step at a time as they prepare for the start of the season next week.
“We normally have three scrimmages, and a team canceled at the last minute for one of them. At our last scrimmage, our number one guys only got like 20 or so reps, and we wanted them to get more reps in this game. That way, we are ready for next week,” said Vaughan. “We got to clean some stuff up and watch the films so we can fix those mistakes and then try to get better at the things we did badly at. I think that’s our goal as coaches; we will watch the film tonight and figure that stuff out, take it one day at a time. I just said to the team that we are getting better every day.”
