School Sports Roundup: Peabody cross country sweeps Swampscott

Peabody cross country swept Swampscott Wednesday 15-45 for the boys and 20-40 for the girls. Evan Bedard, Ryan Faletra, Declan Smith, Logan Tracia, Dylan Faletra, and Josh Trelegan finished one through six for the boys. 

The girls had five of the top seven finishers, with Sarah Divasta, Cailyn Buckley, Ava Buckley, Leah Buckley, and Chloe Toda. 

BOYS CROSS COUNTRY 

Marblehead 16,

Gloucester 46

The top finishers for Marblehead were Isaac Gross (16:57), Will Cerrutti (17:06), and Ryan Thompson (17:31). The boys opened the season and now sit at (1-0).  

GOLF

St. Mary’s 190,

NE Regional 84

Eric Bridges, with a score of 32, and Matt Smith, with a score of 30, led the way for the Spartans in their victory. St. Mary’s golf is now (2-0) on the season. 

Swampscott 45,

Salem 27

Micah Hashikawa won his match 6 ½ to 2 ½, while Jason Bouffard and Dawson DiBarri won their matches  5 ½ to 3 ½. 

Winthrop 43.5, 

Lynn Classical 37.5

Even in a loss, the Rams had some excellent play from Brady Warren, TJ Walsh, Ryan Dugan, and Jake Beyea, who all won their matches. 

VOLLEYBALL

Peabody 3,

Melrose 2

Peabody won the first two sets each with a score of 26-24 before dropping the next two sets 25-23, 25-14. The Tanners got the victory with a 15-10 win in the final set. The Bettencourt’s had a great day for Peabody Isabel notched 11 kills and 5 assists; Abby had 9 kills and 25 assists, while Lizzy had 12 kills. 

Chelsea 3,

Lynn Classical 1

Classical won its lone set of the game 25-22, but even in a season-opening loss, had some nice performances. Jaiyda Debenedetto had 23 assists, while Linda Jallow and Amanda Hughes each notched 8 kills.

Lynn Tech 3,

Nashoba Tech 0 

The Tigers swept their sets 25-21, 25-11, 25-10. In the victory, Abeline Calixte had 8 aces and 2 kills, while Arelys Ruiz had 6 aces and 3 assists. 

FIELD HOCKEY

St. Mary’s 3,

Weston 2

Maggie Pierce was the star of the show for the Spartans, scoring a hat trick. Audrey Zinc and Kasey Litwin each notched assists, while Tabby Lopes had a great game in net.
