The Spartans came out firing against KIPP Academy on Friday with some great play on offense. Senior running back David Brown Jr. scored three touchdowns and ran for 158 yards in slightly more than two quarters.
Brown went down with a leg injury at the end of the second quarter, after which he returned briefly, scoring his third touchdown early in the third quarter.
Derick Coulanges spelled Brown by scoring two touchdowns and rushing for an even 100 yards. Brown’s TD runs went for 24, 20 and 33 yards. Coulanges’ came on 30 and 3-yard runs.
Omri Merryman ran back an interception 100 yards for the Spartans’ final touchdown.
The game, the first of a doubleheader at Manning, was marred by a post-game skirmish. Several Lynn police cars sped to Manning Field between games to restore order.

Concord-Carlisle 6
The Magicians came out firing against Concord-Carlisle. Quarterback Myles O’Neill threw four touchdowns — two to wideout Shane Keough and one to Connor Cronin. Keough and Cronin also came up huge on defense. Keough had a sack and Cronin had an interception.
Peabody 40,
Revere 0
The Tanners won their opener in a big way thanks to an excellent day from their quarterback Shea Lynch. Lynch threw for 174 yards and four touchdowns, three of which came in the first half. Three different receivers scored touchdowns for Peabody in the first half in what could be a helacious offensive attack this season.

Classical defeated English in three straight sets 25-17, 26-24, and 25-20 to win the Lynn City Tournament. Jaiyda Debenedetto, who notched 25 assists and one ace on the night, was also named the tournament’s MVP. Linda Jallow and Amanda Hughes were also great in the championship with six kills each.

After winning the first set 25-19 the Tigers fell to St. Mary’s in three straight sets to fall to (1-2) on the season. Lesnee Izaguirre had 4 kills and Lia Morales had 3 assists in the loss.
BOYS SOCCER

Winthrop 0
Lucas Bereaud led the way with both of Swampscott’s goals in its victory over Winthrop. Max Manadee and Casey DeCamp each notched an assist.
GIRLS SOCCER

Gloucester 2
Shawn Sewell opened the scoring for Saugus just 18 seconds into the game and the Sachems never looked back. The win is good for their second of the season.
FIELD HOCKEY
Marblehead 9,
Greater Lowell Tech 0
Marblehead preyed on Greater Lowell Tech in its matchup with an avalanche of offense. Ailish Morin and Neely Payne each led the way with two goals with a host of other Magicians getting in on the scoring fun. In the shutout, players like James Marcy, Sarah Levine, Megan GIbbons, and Jamie Haliotis were outstanding defensively.
