MARBLEHEAD — A 57-year-old Marblehead man was ordered held on $7,500 bail at his arraignment in Lynn District Court Tuesday after he allegedly broke into the Mary Alley Municipal Office Building in the town.
Anthony Graciale is charged with breaking and entering with intent to commit a felony and malicious destruction of property valued over $1200, Marblehead police said in a statement posted to Facebook. Graciale had an outstanding warrant for his arrest on charges of breaking and entering with intent to commit a felony, malicious destruction of property valued over $1200, and possession of burglarious tools.
Court records show Graciale was committed to the Essex County House of Corrections in lieu of posting the bail amount ordered.
Officers responded to the building, which is located on Widger Road, at 7:13 a.m. Monday for a report of a past breaking and entering, police said in a statement posted to Facebook. Upon arrival, they observed damage throughout the building and, after securing the perimeter, requested detectives to respond to the scene.
Graciale was identified as a suspect in the alleged break-in as a result of evidence found by investigators at the scene.
The building is home to a number of town departments, including the accounting office, the assessor’s office, the building inspection department, the engineering department, the school department, and the tax collector/treasurer office, among others.
Officials closed the building following the break-in, and re-opened it Tuesday morning.
