Nahant paving way for road work

NAHANT — The town accepted a bid of just under $500,000 from contractor D & R to do maintenance on a number of roads, according to Town Administrator Antonio Barletta.

Barletta said the town closed its request for proposal seeking roadway rehabilitation services last week after receiving bids from two companies. Nahant also received a bid from Holcim-NER for the amount of $656,100. The exact amount D & R bid was $499,630.

The town puts out a similar bid once or twice a year, Barletta said, as part of a pavement plan established in 2018. The repair work the town is seeking is for normal wear and tear and repaving.

Barletta said the request for proposal also included an alternate bid for work on Castle Road that “may or may not happen.” That area of town recently underwent an underground utility upgrade from National Grid, and the roads can’t be repaved until the trenches have gone through a winter season.

Repair work will get underway in the next month or so, Barletta said.

“The town of Nahant is happy to have completed the procurement process for our annual paving. D & R is a good company and we look forward to working with them and completing some much-needed road surface repair work,” he said.
